Activision, Beenox Confirm The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man wasn't a bad game. But let's hope Beenox can produce a slightly more polished effort for the new generation.

Over the weekend at the New York Comic Con event, publisher Activision and comic legend Marvel announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently in the works for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, PC, and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Beenox is back at the helm and they should be prepared to deliver the new web-slinging adventure in May 2014. The game will boast an alternative take on the events of the upcoming movie, and gamers will enjoy enhanced free-roaming gameplay in a much bigger New York City. Said Beenox studio boss Thomas Wilson:

"We're giving gamers more abilities, more upgrades, more challenges, and more freedom to progress. And with the game launching alongside the new movie, offering an expanded interactive experience beyond the film, fans of the franchise won't want to miss playing it."

The story will focus more on Peter Parker, as he will investigate the "complicated motivations and unique personalities behind the menagerie of Marvel menaces threatening Manhattan." Lastly, fans can expect a fresh Hero or Menace mechanic that encourages you to behave the way a true superhero would, and likely punishes those who aren't exactly...noble.

Lookin' forward to it!

I wish Activision didn't have the Spider-man license so it could get something as quality as Batman has gotten lately.

I played some Spider-man 2000 on my Dreamcast a couple weeks ago to see how it looked with my new VGA box, very slick.

sweet!
please though, please for the love of god, can we have a in depth complex combat system like spiderman 2 had?
the amazing spiderman was actually, surprisingly, a pretty good game.
held back by the just mash square as fast as you can and ill pull off all the awesome moves for you, combat system.
im sorry, is this a movie or a game?
whos playing?
so f*cking sick of everything being noobified down to the point where a f*cking braindead 2 day old fetus could finish games!
why must castlevania lords of shadow be the only franchise out there with a half decent combat system?
hell even batman is pretty basic and simple!

i miss the good old days where combos were not only incredibly long, anyone remember raidens sparky combo from deception?
not only long, but also so time focused.
not just mash these buttons as fast as you can, but hit this button in the timing and reception of where your enemy is at.
or holding buttons instead of pressing them.
a mortal kombat open world spiderman game, now that would be the shiz niz!!!!!!!!!

would be nice to see allot more web based powers too.
thing that made spiderman 2 so great, i mean has there ever been a spiderman game since where one of the web attacks lets you string enemies to traffic lights and beat them down?
i rest my case.

Just played a few hours of Amazing Spiderman before being sidetracked. But for me the combat mechanics are quite enjoyable specially when you throw some things in the enemies using the web and their are elements of stealth just like in Batman games. Also the graphics of his costumes is nicely done. But the graphics of the city are really not that polished but still fun to web around and collect comics. Didn't get far to know if the story is good. I'll finish it someday.
