Driveclub Officially Delayed, Evolution "Requires More Time"

Unfortunately, those reports were accurate.

As announced over at the PlayStation Blog, the previously confirmed PlayStation 4 launch title Driveclub has been delayed until early 2014. This delay applies to both the regular and PlayStation Plus editions of the game.

The involving racer is in development at Evolution Studios, but Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida said the team "requires more time in order to deliver on their vision." This decision does affect the Instant Game Collection for Plus members at the PS4's launch: Driveclub will still be part of the IGC when it's released; in the meantime, the title has been replaced with Contrast. If you're not familiar with the highly creative project from Compulsion Games, check out the trailer below. It's definitely intriguing.

Yoshida adds that while this news is disappointing, new PS4 owners "will have no shortage of titles to play this year." Launch titles include Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts. Yeah, well, it's not quite as impressive without Watch Dogs or Driveclub. Just sayin'.

Well its on one of the exclusives not at launch. Watch Dog was multiplat anyway and that hits both systems.

I think PS4 launch day owners still have plenty to do. :)

Keep playing!

Based on what I experienced when I played it... a delay isn't going to help. Admittedly, that demo was horribly, horribly limited, but the only thing the game had going for it was the visuals. There was so little feedback in the control that the game felt insipid, and the social aspect was so in-your-face that it utterly killed any enthusiasm I had.

But if they think that they can improve it with more time, then I say take all you need, Evolution.

sounds like one way or another everyone's money would be much better spent on GT6 for PS3.

mmmmh noodles..

I do think there's something more behind this game's delay compared to Watch Dogs.
This is one team who has made racers for years and they're now making a new racer for one console. It seems they've been working on it a while too because Motorstorm Apocalypse came out a long time ago, and that mini RC game wasn't particularly a big endeavor in itself.
Racers aren't quite like open world games. They're about as straight forward (to the finish line ... hehe lame) as they come.

it's all GTA5's fault. Might as well just post pone the next-gen now. GTA5 came out last month. Stop the presses. Delay Watch Dogs and everything.

sure, requires more time.
thats why you delay it one week before it would of been going gold!
sorry $ony, but we were not born yesterday!
as i said before, theres only one reason why games get delayed so close to launch.
maybe they dident want this stealing sales away from GT6, their best selling franchise in playstation history!
or maybe, just maybe, they did this deliberately because they dident want to hurt the ps4s preorders.
especially being the flagship for + and also explains why they left it so late to announce the bundles.
just seems a bit too coincidental that they announced the bundles really late, than as soon as their sold out, probably the biggest flagship title gets delayed.

I've been saying the same at another PS forum I post at, and it's making the fanboys mad. Truth is, I'm a little annoyed with Sony. It had been handling everything right then it seemed like after E3 went crazy. Listening to the internet gaming community, which hardly represents the majority, in regards to indies being preferred over AAA blockbusters (sorry, as good as indie games are they don't sell $400 home consoles) and there's no way Ubisoft and Sony didn't know these games needed to be delayed. What I was seeing of Watch_Dogs back in June I was convinced it needed to be shelved for a bit. Drive Club is a first party racer, absolutely no reason it shouldn't be there day one. Then I look at the X1 library which is much, much stronger. Sony better get its act together fast.

another thing people are forgetting, ubisoft has been very careful with what they show on watchdogs for ages.
i mean at PAX here in july they had a presentation for it, than 4 months later in october they had the exact same presentation.
no hands on, just the devs playing the game.
there always showing off the same crap, they have shown off very little of the multiplayer.
this has been screaming unfinished since at least E3!
which is a bit of a worry considering its been in development for over 5 years and has 7 different studios working on it!

well idk about you but i pre-ordered the retail copy of this game and now i' gunna have to wait till feb with the order and infamous with is kinda anoiying but i guess i've got AC4 knack and KZ:SF.

and yes i agree with Temjin001 on the trying to get us to buy GT6 instead (GT5 or GT6 cos i haven't got either). It seems as though ubisoft and sony are making tactical calls it seems u can't blame them but it wud've like both those games on launch but oh well.

happy gaming =)
