PlayStation 4 Will Support Up To 8 Players With Party Chat

There was a time when the only way to interact with other players was to have those other players in the same room.

Well, things have changed. And if you're wondering how many players the party voice chat function will support on the PlayStation 4, that question has been answered.

Social media manager Sid Shuman made the confirmation over at the PlayStation Blog, saying that just like the Vita, the PS4's party chat function will support up to eight players. Also, don't forget that the new console will feature cross-platform party chat, which means you'll be able to communicate with players who are using the Vita. Let's just hope there will be gamers using Sony's new portable, which appears to be languishing badly these days.

As for voice party chat, is that a feature you intend to use quite a bit?

The chat is rather useful on the vita. I use it mostly with my cousins and friends. We can all play separate games or hangout and watch Netflix together.

There are still gamers using the PSV :P I think it's been outselling the 360 world wide on its good weeks. Sure, it's not selling like hot cakes either, but it's still kicking - don't give into the anti-hype ;).

Depending on the functionality I might potentially be using this all the time.
If my coop friends can just pop in and say hi whenever I'm on playing some game, it'll be used to discuss what coop game to start up.

I wish the "cross platform" could include platforms outside Sonys domain, though. It would be super sweet if someone on a PC or mobile could hook up to my teamchat and join in.

Party Chat is just an afterthought addition, we got different priorities in console land, like the software.
