GameStop: "We're Getting Dual Shock 4 Controllers Early"

Yesterday, we heard a story about how a Reddit user spotted the Dual Shock 4 controller in an EB Games in Canada.

To follow up on that, I checked in with several GameStop locations nearby, and I learned that they're expecting their shipments of PS4 controllers early. Three stores confirmed as much although none could give me an exact number.

I also found out that the controllers are not street-dated so if you wanted to pick one up (or nab your pre-order early), you're free to do that. At the store closest to me, where I have an extra Dual Shock 4 pre-ordered, they told me to just keep checking back over the next week or so, and I might be able to snag it soon. Of course, there's not much I can do with the controller without the PS4 but hey, it's nice to know. And it's a good sign in terms of availability, too, don't you think?

Remember, that's the same store that told me when I initially pre-ordered the controller, that I might not get it on launch day. I think they were only getting 12 at the time. Now, though, the situation seems to have changed for the better. Got yours pre-ordered?

Not including the millions of reviews that are already on youtube.

I think we all know it's a huge improvement over the DS4. All there is to it now is to hold one ourselves.

I read an article a few days ago that said you can use the DS4 on a ps3 via USB cable.

Yup, it's not recommended though, it works for some games perfectly, but others.. not so well.

I went to my local EB and asked about it and the staff at least in the store I went to were more firm and said they'd not sell their stock of PS4 controllers and those who do are going to get in trouble she told me.

I doubted that anyone would get in trouble even if staff.....but she still wasn't going to budge and let me buy one pre-emptively XD

I'm in TX, so maybe a different policy? As far as I know I can pick mine up. Or I can buy multiple if I want. Only need one extra. :)

Wow I was right about the controller releasing early to generate a little extra hype.

neato bandido. I seem to remember the PS2 and other systems had their controllers launch early. I look forward to feeling the "tighter" analog sticks. I read somewhere Sony loosened up the PS3's analog sticks to make it appeal more to Gran Turismo fans. Now they're ditching that and going for shooter fans. =p

It's sacrilege to play Gran Turismo with a DualShock anyway, so I'm glad they changed the analogs back to the tighter style.

If you're going to buy the game, the least you can do is pony up for a decent wheel to play it properly.

People don't control their real vehicle with a DualShock, so why on Earth would anyone drive a virtual car with one? :P

You may be able to try it out on PC or PS3 with a USB cable, so you could get some rough hands-on early? Could well perform different when paired with the PS4 though, and there'll be no touchpad or lightbar action.

The only real reason to get an extre Dualshock would be for COD otherwise there is no point and it's a waste of money.. Your better off waiting a few months until we finally get a game worth playing with a friend.

Has the ps4 controller been confirmed to work on pc? I am really curious about this because if it does I plan on buying one as soon as possible to replace my 360 controller.

I know ds3's will work with drivers and whatnot, but the joysticks never work right, I'm talking plug in my DS4 and it works just like a 360 controller.

Shu said on Twitter that the DS4 will work on the PC with basic functions (as in Buttons and the Joysticks) but he didn't go into further details about it. He said to wait for launch.

I'll wait for the extra colors to drop next year before I buy another controller.

It's not like the one that comes packed in with the PS4 is going to suffer a catastrophic failure, it's Sony tech after all.

I've never had a single Sony device (gaming system or otherwise) fail on me in all of the years that I've been buying their products.

That includes 7 PlayStation consoles (1 PS1, 2 PS2s, 2 PS3s, 1 PSP, and 1 PS Vita), 1 Sony HDTV (An 8 year old 42" Wega), 1 1000 watt surround sound system, 1 CD Walkman, 1 500 watt stereo, 1 CyberShot digital camera, and the Viao laptop I'm typing this message on. :)

Got the controller, it's actually really nicely designed. Feels a bit wider than the DS3 and is a bit heavier, but it feels great. The back texture is nicely designed and wont fade into a smooth plastic like the DS3 and DS2's would. Awesome. Can't wait to play games with it.
