Free PlayStation App Detailed: Expand Your PS Experience

Sony is dishing out the PS4 details at a rapid clip.

They've delivered the full list of features that will be enabled with system update 1.50, which will be available on launch day. The company also announced the PlayStation App, which will be released for iOS and Android devices on November 13 in North America and November 22 in Europe. It's a free app, so download away!

The PS App can be used as a second screen for certain PS4 titles, and will grant users access to multiple PlayStation Network services. We'll be able to access our PS profile and compare Trophies with our friends, and we can exchange messages across the PS4, PS3 and Vita. We'll even be able to browse news, blogs and game details at the official PlayStation site. What a handy little app!

The second screen thing is intriguing. For supported games (such as The Playroom), we can draw pictures on our mobile devices and then "flick" the creations onto the TV, where they will be modeled in 3D. If you want, you can spectate live and recorded PS4 gameplay via the App as well. Me, I like the idea of being able to purchase content on the go, and then coming home to have it all ready to go on the system. Now that's cool.

I just hope it has better compatibility than Beyond Touch.

interesting.
there's a neato iOS app called Game Vault I recommend. It's like a little library where you store a list of all the games you have. It's an information resource too. I wish it release for Android as well. Anyway, those who have iOS should spend the $2 and get it. It's nice having if youre at work or somethign and you can thumb through your games and also create a wish list of games you eventaually want. You can also rate the games and it provides like cover art and all that as well. It's pretty cool.

you can also create lists of games youre currently playing and games you've completed and haven't completed and all of that. so you can be a good little organized gamer.

okay. now I feel like Game Vault people should give me something for being a promoter =p

This will give me the chance to explore more of my PS4 during the day rather than wondering through all of the features and settings on the console when I could be gaming.

I know this sounds odd and unlikely, but they need to release this as a Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 app. I don't have an Android phone anymore, and don't use iOS anything. Hopefully this isn't prevented because they're competing game platforms.

There's actually a Sony Pictures app available on Xbox Live so there's no business reason that they couldn't do it. The only reason that they might not do so is that Windows Phone doesn't have anything close to the market share enjoyed by iOS or Android.

Like thedaini, I am a Windows Phone 8 user too. Sony should definitely release this app on the Windows Marketplace, not doing so would be idiotic.

great, $ony introduces a awesome new feature and how much you wanna bet its going to go down the drain because they dont enforce it?
one thing $ony REALLY needs to get stricter on, whats the point of spending all the time and money developing tools and processes if your going to leave it up in the air as to who uses it?
voice recognition with games for instance, M$ has been getting a massive advantage in allot of games because they entice developers to use kinect for their games.
why doesent $ony do the same and remind them hey the playstation camera can do the same thing?
if i had a nickel for every time $ony created a awesome feature but it fell to the wayside because they left it up to the developers to use it, well, id be the richest man in the universe!
devs have enough on their plate there not going to implement something unless you put a little pressure on them.
how many games today would have trophies if $ony did not make them mandatory?

Your comments really really confuse me. Are they not enforcing this feature by making it readily available to a wider audience by developing the app and functionality for the Vita, iOS devices and Android devices?

just because somethings available does not mean developers have to use it.
the playstation camera exists so does that mean every ps4 game will use it?
how about ps4s light bar the replacement for the move controller?
or the touch pad?

Do half these features have to be downloaded by the internet? so if you didn't have internet you couldn't play blu ray movies??
