Activision: New Call Of Duty, Skylanders Titles For 2014

Bet you didn't expect this. Oh...you did? You must be clairvoyant or something.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed during a recent earnings call that a new Call of Duty game will launch in 2014. Likely November again.

Kotick also said that the next Skylanders installment will arrive next year as well, and he said there's a "major new potential franchise with Bungie's Destiny." Of course, we don't have any details about the new CoD just yet, but franchise executive producer Mark Rubin said that a space setting isn't out of the realm of possibility. That might not be a bad thing, either, because they definitely need to reinvent this IP.

As I said in my review of the freshly released Call of Duty: Ghosts, there comes a time when you have to acknowledge the age and encroaching staleness of a great series. And there's no doubt that CoD has been great...it just isn't quite "great" anymore.

perhaps CoD will seem a bit refreshed when they're made only for the next-gen of consoles. Having like 8 or 9 sequels on one platform is going to make anything feel stale in so short of time... I think.

anyway, these annualized massive franchises pretty much punt kick the specialized 'core gamer' interests out the window. Now they just need Ryse to sell bucket loads amid the soft reviews and we can officially say we're the niche people in gaming. You know? THe ones who take gaming seriously, like as art and stuff.

I passed on several COD titles, those particular ones didn't draw my interest. I don't see myself forking down the money if their going to keep using the same game engine day in and day out. To be fair they should provide the DLC for free, people have to wait who knows how long anyways/overpriced to begin with. Bottom line Kotick is in for the extra tons of money, that's why I hate him.

I keep forgetting Activision is behind Destiny, maybe I won't bother with it after all... They don't deserve their success.

Of course he can.

That's not fair to the guys at Bungie though. Who are the ones making Destiny.

It's like, I don't want to give EA my money, but if I didn't I would miss out on a whole lot of my favourite titles.

The only problem I have with the franchise is that they make billions of dollars yet they can't create a top of the line engine. The sad part is that even though next years COD will definitely look good it's still not going to look any better than BF3. (They also need another studio at least.)

Yes... because making Call of Duty into a personality-free version of Halo or Killzone is what will save it. In space, no-one can hear Riley bark.

Seriously, good for them. They're onto a good wicket with Skylanders and Call of Duty, so why not continue to pump them out. They're not for me, and nor is Destiny for that matter, but millions of people love them, clamour for them and buy them year after year, so strike while the iron's hot and all that.

Just so long as exploitation gaming isn't contagious I'm cool with it.

I really hope Bungie uses their own engine for Destiny. I don't want it to look anything like Call of Duty, since they all look like (and no offense to any fans) they all look like trash.

Of course it does. Just because Activision is publishing their game, doesn't mean they are forced to use their tools.

actually, i wouldnt mind offending the fans with that comment. they kept giving them a pass every year and thats what happens. if they actually did something, the game would still be worth buying.

it may not be a good example but look at infamous 2. they completely changed cole but fans spoke up and it was fixed.

new call of duty, lol. after reading that call of duty ghosts used the same motion capture scenes from an older call of duty game, its kinda getting harder and harder for people to see that its been the same game from modern warfare. thats just a new low for the franchise. wonder what else they recycled for the game.

The irony is that it IS the same game from modern warfare.

I've been playing COD since PS2....Ghosts is the first time in franchise history that I've not picked it up day one. Same to be said for many of my other COD friends. I'm pretty much burned out...and truly tired of the Activision/M$ agreement that relegates PS users to the bottom of the garbage heap. Their lack of addressing hackers is appalling. NOthing more discouraging than looking at leader boards and seeing all the hacks.
