GameStop: On Average, PS4 Pre-Orders Outstrip Xbox One

It's the million-dollar question: Which next-gen system has obtained more pre-orders?

Well, for GameStop, it's definitely the PlayStation 4. During a recent AMA at Reddit, a GameStop manager commented on the pre-order tally for the retailer.

After first confirming that his store had 150 PS4 pre-orders as opposed to only 30 Xbox One pre-orders, Reddit user "kilogttam" said he keeps seeing people reporting around "3x as many PS4 pre-orders as Xbox One." To that, the manager replied:

"Yupp, the only store I saw with more XBone pre orders than PS4 was a mall store, had like 110 PS4 and 115 Xbone. Otherwise on average, there are a decent amount more PS4 pre orders."

He later clarified that the average was not 150-30, as it is in his store, but he has only heard of a few stores that have brought in more Xbox One pre-orders and even then, it's by a slim margin. I wonder how many pre-orders Microsoft would've gotten had they not reversed the policies that everyone hated when the system was first revealed. And it appears they haven't yet fully recovered from that fiasco...

I've got a very good feeling about this generation.

coming in less powered and higher priced and after the PS4's release just doesn't look like a formula for success MS.

I'm sure they figure that spending more on advertising will fix the whole thing.

The scary part is Microsoft going all out not only in advertising, but exclusive rights to more third party game (Titanfall, Dead Rising, Insomniac's game?). That's what annoy me. Even if it's timed, it can be a big factor.

Also, I have to admit, I'm a tinny bit jealous on Killer Instinct. Just a little though, cause there are some changes and character designs that weirds me out.

I always loved Killer Instinct but to be honest I don't think I would have had it in me to remember and execute all those crazy combos any more. That's a young man's game.

Besides less powered and higher priced, don't forget to add bulkier and an uglier aesthetic design.

I think UK is the only country in Europe that's Xbox dominated, but yeah pretty much the whole Europe is Playstation-owned.

Saw Marc and Yusuf's recent video showcasing stuff no serious gamer would care for. I really don't see why anybody who plays Xbox 360 would need to tell Kinect what they want it to do. Those two are tools.

I want to play video games on my video game console. I have a PC to do the rest. The One is geared to anybody who has never used a PC...whomever those people are.

It'll be at least six months I think until we get an accurate picture about which console truly has more momentum (assuming either pulls ahead.) But it's hard not to take the anecdotal evidence seriously -- at least in the early going, PS4 appears headed for first place this generation.

I think when they announced all those policies everyone who was planning a launch pre-order for next gen jumped on the PS4 train and by the time MS changed those policies most people already had a PS4 pre-order and just decided to stick with it.

Just found out most Xbox one games are running at 30FPS. Its actually affecting people moving from 360 to xbox one. If xbox loses its hardcore audience, and all thats left is diehard fanboys and children, than xbox won't be leading anywhere. Sony did everything right and the ad's and whatnot have been funny and interesting. If anyone has a good handle on the next gen its certainly Sony. MS turned a 180 and took back everything they were going for, and Nintendo... If Sony stays in the lead this gen than I feel like video games will make a huge comeback in terms of quality and innovation.

I really hope PS4 can manage to stay even with Xbox One in North America and continue to win in the other regions because that would be better for the gamers, imo. Too many times I felt third party games, while good on PS3, were kept from being as good as they possibly could've been because the dev teams were more focused on 360 (the better selling system for most of the current gen). It seems pretty clear at this point that PS4 is the more capable hardware and I want to see it used to its full potential by more than just Sony's first party.

Ok so essentially the entire UNIVERSE is screaming one unison message at us. To be honest, at this stage I'll be straight up disappointed if the PS4 do *not* surpass Xbone sales in NA from day one.

Here in Europe PS already do dominate the console market and as far as I know has always done so, so I only expect a boost of that dominance.

No way to validate what I say, but my Gamestop has about 100 pre-orders and 3 pages of waiting list. My friends Gamestop in Boston area is getting 300 and a waiting list of 500 people, with Xbone waiting list of 15.

Another friend in Virginia confirmed that same ratios at his Gamestop with only 1 person on the xbone waitlist.

I'm on a forum where lots of BF3 360 players are making the switch to BF4 PS4.
It's happening.
