What Franchise Deserves A Resurrection Next Generation?

We're all quite familiar with the big-name franchises of the current generation. And one has to assume most all of them will continue on in when the next era begins.

But what is a seemingly dead franchise that you'd most like to see return? What deserves a resurrection after so many years of lying dormant? I heard someone mention Dino Crisis a few days ago and that got me thinking...

For me, even though I'm relatively convinced Konami would completely screw it up, I want a full-fledged Suikoden VI for the PlayStation 4. Yeah, a turn-based RPG. But of course, that's probably a pipe dream because A. Turn-based doesn't exist on consoles anymore, and 2. JRPGs are on the decline in terms of popularity and quality, and are probably last on the priority list of a company like Konami. But even if they had to put it on the Vita or something, provided it remained turn-based, Suikoden VI would so be mine. It's the second-best role-playing franchise of all time next to Final Fantasy; I will always maintain that.

A few other franchises I miss are Jet Moto and Legaia, although I'm sure they're deader than ever. I'd also pine for a Legend of Dragoon sequel if that would do any good, and I have a soft spot for Alundra. That isn't a series but there's just something about that top-down, Zelda-like style that I really miss, and I can't really find today. 3D Dot Game Heroes was kinda close, but... So what about you?

Kingdom Hearts!

And where is the announcement for NA, HD remakes?

Maybe that's not old enough? Well, it sure deserves another game in the series, that's for sure!

I have Loved E.V.O The Search for Eden on the Super Nintendo since I first laid eyes on it. Do you guys remember that game...You started out as a fish and had to evolve to a homosapien thru eating and killing other weaker creatures, getting experience or money (I forgot)to buy better jaws, claws, eyes, fur, etc. Remake that and I can die happy.

Final Fantasy anyone? Lol just couldn't resist...

Surprisingly, Mega Man X would be my #1 on my list and not an RPG. Crash Bandicoot would be my second and Grandia (remake of first would be AWESOME!). I want them like I remember them only with shiny new graphics and additional features, mind you.

I could put Persona since it hasn't appeared on the PS3 but it's so fresh on my mind...

From the PSX days I'd like to see Ogre Battle really come back. Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen is still my favorite game for that system. Mega Man needs to come back as well in a game other than a mobile one. Dino Crisis would be nice as long as it followed the formula of the original one. A return of the Kessen franchise would be welcomed too. I'd also like to see Resident Evil come back also. It's been eight years since we had a real one.

This article really hits a soft spot for me, because there are 2 series that I have always wished this generation would come back: Shenmue and Xenosaga (gears).

I personally think Shenmue deserves to come back because the world is just so damn immersive. They managed to pull off a huge living, breathing world within the limitations of the Dreamcast, so I can only imagine what they could do with a Shenmue on next gen. The thing about Shenmue is that it's open world, but it actually feels like a world. It doesn't feel like a lot of other open world games because you can literally go inside almost every building, and interact with almost everything. Bring this game back Sega!

As for Xenosaga (gears), well, I believe it's truly one of the best, if not the best, story told in a video game. Don't get me wrong, I still think the likes of MGS and Heavy Rain are up there, but the Xeno series is so intricately detailed while retaining an epic feel to it all the way through. Sometimes intricacy gets in the way, with too much jargon and whatnot to learn, but in the case of the Xeno series you're always amply awaiting that next tidbit of information to put the pieces together. You just care so much about the characters that you want to see it through to the end with them!

Anyways, these 2 series are the ones I would like back in full force, but honourable mention goes to:

Parasite Eve (a real one anyways, I discredit the 3rd birthday from having any meaning whatsoever as it just ruined everything)

Alundra (glad you mentioned this, although I never finished it, I really loved it while I was playing)

Vagrant Story (The way the first one ended just makes me beg for more!)

Secret of Mana (A good one. A full budget, good Mana game. Why have they failed so hard on this?)

Also you know what? I would really like some sort of spiritual successor to those SNES Enix games, like Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. Those games were amazing, and even to this day I go back and play them every now and then.

Edit: Forgot to mention Megaman! I have and always will be a side scrolling junky. Bring on the Rocket Knights, Megamans, and Contras!

I wonder why they wouldn't make a new Chrono as so many people revere the original and many even consider it their favourite RPG of all time. Then again, Square hasn't made the best decisions lately.

Ultima: Hopefully as Highlander said they make an HD trilogy for the PS3 and then you can play them. Trust me, you won't be able to put them down once you start ;)

Legend of Dragoon please! I don't know how many petitions I've signed. I remember thinking "Oh man, imagine how great Dragoon would look on PS2"... and it never happened. Then I remember thinking "OH MAN! Imagine how amazing Dragoon would look on PS3!"... also never happened, nor will it. Maybe the next generation will shatter my brains all over the wall with the awesomeness of a new Legend of Dragoon game.

And I know it's not exactly a resurrection, but I really really want a new Valkyria Chronicles game on PS3/Vita... PS4, whatever. A true follow up to the original with the same style of gameplay. I liked the PSP sequel, but it was missing something. The comic booky presentation didn't quite hold up for me.

Wait Ben... I had no idea you were a fan of the Legaia Series. I would love to see another entry into that series. Speaking of Alundra did you notice how Cara's theme was remarkably similar to Alundra's "Requiem?"

Personally the series I would love to see the most would be Ecco the Dolphin. The DC/PS2 Version looked stunning (especially the levels designed based on Sky Tides from Ecco II). I can only imagine how drop dead gorgeous that game would look in full HD!

That is unfortunately even more of a pipe dream than another turn-based RPG. :(

Who's Cara? Was she in Legaia and I just forgot her?

Legend of Legaia and Legaia 2: Duel Saga are two of my all-time favorite RPGs. Turn-based with that awesome ARTs system? I have to admit, I kinda cheated and looked up the Miracle Arts on GameFAQs at the time, but still... ;)

They had cool stories and great characters. Traditional RPG goodness at its best.

Cara was the pink haired women who you first meet in Octam while she is trying to loot the deserted town. You meet up with her again in Sol Tower in the bar where Grates (her bf) is always getting drunk. Legaia was my first RPG so it holds extremely fond memories for me!

Legaia 2 was amazing though the last battle confused me a little story wise. I love that they kept the battle system very similar to its predecessor.

I'm right there with you on the Miracle arts - I found one out and after that HAD to look the rest up. Also figuring out the super arts was always fun because those happened quite naturally.

BTW For anyone who is interested in news about Ecco the Dolphin it seems the games designer, Ed Annunziata, among others is in progress of meeting and presenting new Ecco ideas to SEGA. Here is hoping it goes well!

I don't remember the stories very well, but I do remember doing EVERYTHING in both those games. It was just a while ago. :)

Classic Platformers, I cannot express ho much I long for another Crash Bandicoot or Spyro game that is not a cop out. The platforming genre has been dead this gen. Ratchet and Clank ruined it last year with guns and when Jak II joined in it was over.

Mind you there was some life in Crash after Naughty Dog abandoned him. Crash Twinsanity, while it has a few flaws was areally a fantastic and really unique title. It is a game which's humour was actually funny, it's very rare a game will make me laugh through scripted scenes, but Twinsanity had many well scripted moments. The gameplay was also a departure from the level system in classic Crash for an open world environments similar to Jak & Daxter 1. I have to say I thought it was well implemented. Then you have the soundtrack, which in my eye still stands out was very unique and truly fitting to the chaos in the game.

I would have loved another Crash game like Twinsanity, but then they made Crash take control of monster and just bash up s*** like the Wherehog sections in Sonic Unleashed... and we got 2 games like that, Instead of another game like Twinsanity...well that's why Crash is in his retirement home being served apple mush through a straw...

Well, Suikoden... hell yes.

Front Mission. You know, a real one, not a shooter.

A console revival of Parasite Eve would definitely be interesting to me.

There is a special sanctuary in my heart for the Drakan games. I long for another.

More Dark Cloud, please.

I'll stop now. This could go on forever if I let it.

No, no wait. One more. You know what game gave me more of a visceral scare than almost anything that is labeled as Horror or Survival Horror? The old Sinistar arcade game. Maybe there would be no way to replicate that particular alchemy of terror in a modern environment, but damn. That game got your heart rate going. It would be cool if they could pull it off again.

I keep forgetting another of Square-Enix's MANY fu**-ups this generation was what they did to Front Mission.

Yea man POP original sands not these stupid new titles just using the license. (Price of persia 2008 guy was not even prince for crying out).

And yea man I would soo love a good soul calibur along the likes of SC2 or SC3. SC4 and SC5 pale in comparison.

And BF series really needs a revival.

The Saga series. Emperor Saga from GREE doesn't count. Specifically a Romancing SaGa 2 remake like Minstrel Song would be nice =D and please nothing like unlimited saga ever again.

Legend of Dragoon would be an excellent reboot; whether they create a sequel or an HD update. In my eyes it was one of the few games with an amazing and engaging battle system.

Another game I would love to see is Legend of Legaia or Grandia, partly for the same reasons.

My games with great battle systems: Grandia, Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, and Valkyrie Profile
