Rumor: New Chrono Game To Use Luminous Engine On PS4?
This could go a long way toward restoring fan confidence in Square Enix. Then again, it might just be another of the many rumors to involve the company that have arisen and disappeared in the past decade.
You may recall that Agni's Philosophy tech demo that everyone ooh-ed and ahh-ed over for some time. It was created with the help of the Luminous Engine, which is widely expected to be used for a few Square Enix next-gen projects.
Well, based on one unnamed source (who made it clear that he was hearing this from a former internal source; i.e., a former S-E employee), it seems S-E has at least been toying with the idea of using that fancy new tech in a new Chrono title. You remember, right? There was the legendary Chrono Trigger on the SNES and Chrono Cross on the original PlayStation, which garnered a ton of praise and is commonly viewed as one of the best RPGs ever. Fans of both games will also remember the "Chrono Break" rumor that started early last generation.
If the project ever existed, it obviously dwindled away to nothing over the years. But according to the source, the name "Chrono" has never disappeared entirely and a whole lot of old-school designers at the company would love to see it return. It seems they might get their chance when the PS4 rolls around, and the Luminous Engine will go to work. Take this with a grain of salt, if you wish; it's probably a wise thing to do. Square-related rumors are iffy at best.

COD is always the same.. thats what people complain about nowadays..
if RE6 was like RE4.. exactly the same.. or even RE1.. it woulndt hold up to today's standard. people will bitch and moan too.
i still say companies should create new IPs.
instead of.. FF13-100 ...
create a spin off...
as ben puts it, he is additcted to FF-13-2. but.. not as a FF game.
if FFXIII-2 was not called FF, there woulndt be so much backlash.

Especially given how the Chrono series' world has always been big on the diversity of characters and the different time periods and despite their system's limitations they still made the game expansive on replay value. It would be amazing to see how much more expansive their next entry could be.

I hope square realizes that they have games like Deus Ex, sleeping dogs, and hitman I think is them to get western sales, and that they can just start making classic jrpgs again.
I also hope no one buys lightning returns.... I hope it fails and wakes square up in the harshest way possible. I seriously have no clue what they are doing over there.
Versus 13 is the last hope I have in this company, if that gets cancelled no more money from me. Ill buy all their games used.

Plus Square Enix would screw this up. I don't even think they're capable of doing true turn based anymore...
That's not to say I wouldn't be interested, provided it all sounds good and gameplay videos confirm it, id be on bored.
If this was as good as chrono trigger(please get the 'dream team's back on bored for this) then it could completely help the companies image.

Also, like many others have said, im not interested in graphics as much as I am in better AI intelligence. Imagine in GTA following a ped, who got in his car and you were following him to his house from work or something. Environment realisticness, for example a construction project is started and based on time (not game progression) the project is closer to completion. Of course this sounds like a lot for a game (in this case GTA) but who would've known whe could do what we can do today in the past?

people will moan and cry and bitch about.. 'OH THIS IS NOT HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO BE...'... like every single japanese franchise out there.
devil may cry, resident evil, ff, the list goes on and on....
