PS4 Game Install Times: Only A Simple Matter Of Seconds

Sure, games may have to take up a sizable chunk of the PlayStation 4 hard drive. But if you're using a disc, the time required before you can play is absolutely minimal.

And in terms of start-up time when you first turn on the system, it's not bad at all. Kotaku timed how long it took to turn on the PS4, download the necessary 1.06 update, install it, reboot the system, and install 7 games from the discs.

The total time came in at less than 15 minutes, which is great news. They timed the amount of time it took for each game:

  • Knack: 32 seconds
  • Killzone: Shadow Fall: 0:38
  • Battlefield 4: 0:42
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us: 0:28
  • Just Dance 2014: 0:24
  • Madden 25: 0:23
  • Assassin's Creed 4: 0:13

It's also important to note that the PS4 automatically installs game data once a PS4 disc is inserted for the first time. Therefore, you don't have to worry about spending hours and hours prepping your new console.

Yeah but now there will be a lot of extra time where I have to sift through my hard drive deciding what to delete.

I hope I can play the games from the hard drive without the disc, that might make it worth it.

I doubt it. The console needs to have an authentication method. Otherwise people would just start buying games, installing, re-selling, rinse and repeat. At this point the last thing Sony needs is another piracy controversy.

Lot of Extra time ?

Did nt you saw its about 30 sec of waiting ?

If it s hard deciding what to delete when it tale that little time to install , you must be busy all the time .

What 38 seconds to install Killzone!?! That's it ... pre-order cancelled.
