PS4 Tops 1 Million Sold In 24 Hours

Sony believes they'll sell 5 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide before the end of the company's fiscal year (March 31, 2014).

Well, they're not off to a bad start. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) has announced that 1 million PS4 units have been sold in the US and Canada. That number was reached within the first 24 hours of the new system's availability.

Said SCEI President and Group CEO Andrew House:

"PS4™ was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal. Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support."

Despite growing reports of hardware and PlayStation Network issues, the majority of PS4 owners seem to be satisfied with their purchase. And if those problems are resolved relatively quickly and Sony's latest console has a great holiday season, then Sony should be able to hit their fiscal sales projections. Wonder how many years the PS4 will be around...another decade? Got yours yet?

Pretty sure Sony has the advantage this time, and not because of a one week lead. MS, I think, is creatively bankrupt. I see Sony taking control this holiday season.

From what ive seen even more would be sold if they were available. There is a lot of fan outcry to get more on store shelves. A big problem in my area is that some stores didnt even get them in, like Fred Meyer, costco, and even some game stores. That hurts pretty bad too.

However, its much better than the PS3 and most stores are optimistic they will keep getting them in. That 5 million should be easy money.

I hope they make that estimate, the holidays should help a lot. Taking currency into account that's gotta be like half a billion dollars one day 1.

Next week the whole world will be watching to see how Xbox One does. I'm sure they will get their fair share of horror stories in the news too.

Possibly. Either way they will do well. Im curious how well the Xbox will do in 24 hours. That will makw it interesting to see how much of a mistake and how many bridges the burned.

If they fail to surpass PS4 sales numbers in US and Canada, I'm pretty sure they'll spin that by mentioning worldwide sales instead. After all, they're launching in 13 countries instead of just two. It's also possible that they'll mention shipped numbers instead of sold. Either way, that puts microsoft in an unenviable situation.

That reminds me, can MS even ship as much units? I read somewhere that they're still having production issues.

unwavering commitment to gamers?
so then why is there only 2 first party titles on launch, and none in sight for another 4 months when SS is out late march?
then after that nothing for another 7 or so months till the order is out.
and also the disappointing specs, constant last minute delays both in games and even in OS features.
still cant believe the suspend and resume feature wont be available till a later date, i mean that was the whole draw of the new system!
the one thing the vita REALLY needs!

it was really interesting though IGN had a interview with adam boyds the other day in which he revealed the prototype name for the ps4 was actually orbis as the rumors and leaks said.
so, i guess that means all those leaked documents, and leaked specs were accurate?
anyone remember the SDK leaked pages listing the orbis was going to have 8 PPEs and 32 SPUs?
oh man that would of been a frigging beast!
unwavering commitment to gamers ay, so why did you fold and cheapen out with the one thing that matters, the only reason why playstation has been so successful?

when $ony entered the market people called them crazy, there is no way they are going to survive up against nintendo there frigging insane!
and, well, here we are today 3 home consoles later.
they squeezed their way into the industry because ninty has always been anti technology, they squeezed their way into the industry because playstation has always been the cutting edge, always bringing next years technology today.
ps4 though, is more like 2011s technology today!
ive got infinite respect for mark simply because of all the work hes done for the company, and the masterpieces he has created.
but im sorry i just cant help but believe he is the reason why the ps4 is such a slow outdated PoS!
$ony comes in proposing cell architecture amped up to 11, then cerny comes in and shoehorns in a 3 year old PC.
i know they were trying to make the thing simplified and easier for indies to work with, but at what cost?
playstation got their foot into this industry by offering the top technology available, not by saying to the kid in the basement hey our systems easy to work on!
they have gained the support of the lazy developer, but at the cost of the companies purpose.

I'm in the same boat, although the issues have nothing to do with it. I have about 5 or 6 buddies that all got it, and none of them have had issues of any kind whatsoever.

I'll be waiting for that moment I can no longer stand not having one. In the meantime, I still have games to play, and in truth, I have 4 games still in shrink wrap. (All from killer sales you can't pass up.)

Back in June of this year, in an article where Pachter predicts the launch time-frame and sales of PS4 and Xbox One, I stated the PS4 would not only launch first, it will outsell Xbox One at a ratio of about 2.5 to 1.

I still feel strongly about the numbers I originally gave, although, I feel MS has gained significant ground and will likely reach up to 1 million units sold worldwide by the first month on the market.

With Sony's strong showing on launch day, I expect to see this trend continue and Sony will likely sell another 1.5 million by month's end should they be able to keep up with demand.

Total Worldwide sales by Dec 31, 2013
-PS4 = 3.5 mil
-XB1 = 1.5 mil

Total Worldwide sales by March 31, 2014
-PS4 = 5.5 mil
-XB1 - 3.5 mil

Should the rumor of a cheaper Xbox One prove true, this could significantly affect sales numbers. See below:

Total Worldwide sales by Dec 31, 2013
-PS4 = 3.0 mil
-XB1 = 2.0 mil

Total Worldwide sales by March 31, 2014
-PS4 = 4.5 mil
-XB1 - 4.0 mil
