Analyst: PS4, Xbox One Attach Rate Will Be Around 3.25
How many games did you buy for the PlayStation 4? If you plan to purchase the Xbox One, how many titles do you intend to purchase for that?
Well, one analyst believes the average response will be a little more than 3. Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz mentioned in a note to investors that both the PS4 and Xbox One will have approximately a 3.25 software attach rate during the initial launch period.
With a total of 32 retail launch-day titles available on day one, the 3.25 attach rate indicates an average 20 percent attach rate across all titles. Creutz does believe that Battlefield 4 will perform slightly better, boasting an attach rate of around 30 percent. Madden NFL 25 and NBA 2K14 are also expected to be a bit higher, while Zumba Fitness, Zoo Tycoon, Fighter Within and Injustice: Gods Among Us will be lower. It's interesting that Call of Duty: Ghosts wasn't cited.
If you wish to compare, the Xbox 360's attach rate was 4.2 when it launched back in 2005, and the PS3's was 1.9 in 2006. The latter number isn't exactly a big surprise; a relatively weak launch lineup and the high price of the PS3 ($500/$600) would cause the attach rate to take a big hit. If both the PS4 and Xbox One can manage an attach rate of more than 3, that's not bad. And of course, more games are coming!
