GameStop: PS4 Launch Has Already Eclipsed PS3 Launch

It helps when you actually have systems to sell.

During a recent earnings call, GameStop president Tony Bartel said the PS4 sell-through numbers since November 15 (launch day) are 80% higher than the total number of PS3 units sold during GameStop's entire 2006 fiscal year.

Of course, we have to put that in perspective, as the PS3 launched in November 2006 and GameStop's fiscal year ended in February 2007, so it was only a matter of three months. Still, that means the PS4 needed less than six days to nearly double the PS3's first three-month sales tally. It was also confirmed that the retailer has sold through their launch stock, and nearly 2.3 million people are on their "First to Know" list.

It was previously reported that over 1 million PS4 consoles were sold in North America in the first 24 hours.

It's no surprise, since their was 2 main factor problems going on (actually 3 but that was Sony decision but took them years to recover) with the PS3 around that time.

I can see the Xbox release selling slightly higher, while including multiple countries. Then brag to the world that they are the best release console in history.

Pretty impressive considering the average launch lineup.

Here's hoping these big sales numbers convince Capcom to consider porting Dead Rising 3 to the PS4, which is one game i remain admittedly jealous of not being able to play on PS4.

I'm sure we will get an enhanced edition with a better framerate and a subtitle as soon as the exclusivity runs out.

thats the result when your HALF the price, and actually have enough units to go around!
ps3 was ridiculously overpriced at 1000AUD, not to mention each store had very few units available.
nice to see every PS4 preorder made up until late october WILL be fulfilled by chrissy this year, nice to see $ony actually beefing up supply for a change i was expecting another ps3 debacle.

I was not expecting the PS3 situation again for two reasons.

First, Blu-Ray violet lasers are no longer a bleeding edge new technology, and are easier to produce now than back then when they were still new.

Second, We all knew that Sony had ramped up production already by the start of summer, a good month ahead of Microsoft even.

I'm kinda proud of Sony. They learned their lesson and took that to heart to make this launch something far better than the last.

You know what ...I really don't care. Both PS3 and 360 sold great as did the Wii. I don't support eh Xbox, but if people buy it I don't care. I just want to play good games on PlayStation (PS3, Vita, PS4).

Yeah other than a few exclusives and a few games with some bonus content (which isn't currently/nor probably won't be available on the PS3), I still don't feel very compelled to adopt an XBOX at the moment. (Although I really would've liked those extra characters in MUA!) :)

Availability Availability Availability...

That is the ONLY reason the PS4 has outsold the PS3, can't well what you don't have. For those who mention price, may I remind you the nearest Blu-Ray player at the time was still priced DOUBLE that of the PS3... So please drop the whole "it was too expensive" BS because for the tech that was in the system it wasn't...
