PSXE Poll Update: Most PS4s Seem To Be Running Fine

After many reports of busted PlayStation 4 launch systems, we wanted to know how many of our readers had experienced major problems.

And it really depends on how you wish to interpret the data. On the one hand, we could be optimistic and say that nearly 92% of all respondents have a PS4 console that is working okay. On the other hand, you could also say that over 8% have reported a broken console.

That's not a very agreeable number in terms of reliability, even though we're only talking about a participating group of 729. Still, it's certainly a lot higher than Sony would want, provided the number is even close to accurate. At the same time, we are talking about launch systems and as time goes on, the reliability of the hardware will undoubtedly improve. And besides, we don't know how the Xbox One will fare; early reports aren't all that encouraging, it seems.

Now that you've had the PS4 for a while, what do you think about the launch lineup? Many have given it flak for not being stout enough, while others defend the number of quality titles (even if most of them are third-party cross-gen efforts). What do you say?

I'd say the launch line-up is just okay and basically on par (or slightly better) to the PS3's launch line-up.

You gotta figure, people who have had issues, are more likely to respond to the survey than people who haven't come across any issues, yet. I know I didn't respond, even though my ps4 after running all day still runs cool (and quieter than a purring kitten). I know Amazon didn't package it very well. The shipping box was about 3-4 times the volume of the ps4 box, with some bubble rap in there (not even enough to keep it snug).

But, I gotta hand it to Amazon. I ordered a ps4 on launch day (early morning Friday), and got it Saturday morning...without a preorder.

I dont think the percentage of faulty systems is anywhere near 8%, it might be, but thats surprisingly high. But since the Xbox released, its almost a rarity to see headlines and reports of busted PS4's. What does that tell you? People finally got something better to do, possibly? In all seriousness it was never that big of a deal to begin with. Yes we seen some reports but some of those reports were either from consumer error or later admitting to possible fault. Cant blame Sony when an hdmi cable is put in wrong.

The launch line up is great if your a shooter fan. If not sure it can be seen as weak. Third larty or first party a launch line up is a launch line up. 2 generations ago it wouldnt have mattered what party the game came from.

The Vita shipped with burnt pixels. Sony says it's normnal. PS4 ships with problems. Sony says it's normal. Not liking their trend of not putting out viable systems because of the excuse Well it is the first release, so some problems must be expected.

It's just lazy and I expect better of them.

No problems with my system whatsoever. The fail rate for launch systems is, as I understand it, miniscule. A total non-story propagated by hysterical internet nerds who ignored the facts in favor of anecdotes that didn't reveal the whole story. Sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking for a scandal, but the system works just fine for more than 99 percent of us (and those few who got busted units are getting replacements from Sony. The horror!)

Chatted with my gamestop manager friend and he said someone came in and said their ps4 was busted and was missing some cables. Turns out, he didnt know what an HDMI was. People are very dumb, so I could honestly say take what you hear with a grain of salt.

My console is working fine although the network was a little flaky at launch. That largely seems to have been resolved, though.
