PS4 Hits 2.1 Million, "Best Launch In PlayStation History"

The PlayStation 4 surpassed the 1 million sales mark in only 24 hours. Now that number has been updated.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has announced that cumulative sell-through for the PS4 worldwide has surpassed 2.1 million units as of December 1. That includes the 700,000 units just sold in Europe and Australasia, which means North American sales have hit around 1.4 million.

The PS4 is now available in 32 countries globally and SCE president and group CEO Andrew House says this is the best launch in the brand's history:

"PS4 delivered the best launch in PlayStation history with the North American release and we've continued this incredibly successful start in Europe, Australasia and Latin America. Demand remains incredibly strong and continues to overwhelm the supply worldwide, but we are diligently working to meet those growing demands and to deliver additional PS4 units to our retail partners throughout the holiday season. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support."

The PS4 offers more power and capability and a host of new features, including live broadcasting on Ustream and Twitch, sharing content via social media channels, the Dual Shock 4's new "Share" button, and a refined user interface. By the way, over 6.5 million Shares have been captured via that nifty button on the controller; what have you shared so far? Hopefully some worthwhile footage.

Sony has yet to launch in Japan, as the anticipated date is set for February of next year.

Thats great for Sony. The PS4 is quite the console and what it brings to the table is driving these sales. More people want to have a game console and thats showing. However thats not to discredit the XboxOne because its obvioisly selling well also. But the trend of consumers this generation is much different.

As for the share button, the only thing worthy of being uploaded - that I did upload - was my 8 knife/melee kills in a row in 1.5 min. In Killzone Shadow Fall mp. Otherwise Ive just used the button to show some impressive scenes and moments.

with 1 million consoles ready for launch and 1 million more ready within two weeks after that, their production speed tells me they should hit their 3 million year end goal, and then some.

Australasia consists of Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea and other islands in the same general region. The term means south of Asia :)

Not trying to ruin the moment for everyone, but the road ahead is still uncertain. Amazon.com have not evolved to allow preorders for PS3 PS2 at their launch. We can only say that PS4 would be more successful than its competitora but not sure compared with its predecessor

That's quite impressive. Pretty much every gamer I know personally is springing for the PS4, and several of them can't get the console yet due to limited availability, so I daresay that figure is just going to keep rising. From what I've seen, the XBO seems to be just about dead on arrival here in Australia, though that statement is based on a fairly small sample size.

surprised its only sold 700K in EU, i mean that use to be $onys strong point.
is this a result of them CONSTANTLY giving EU the finger?
or is this a result of them AGAIN giving EU the finger, in releasing far more units in the US?
judging by the fact that preorders now wont be arriving till next year, im going with the latter.

That's a pretty stellar number for one week, dude. It's not a sign of anything negative... like... at all.

I was shocked at only 7000000 in Europe, and it's a few days not even one day, I thought UK + France + Germany + Scandinavia would do way more, but I think Europeans aren't rushed like Americans, they know it'll be there for years and one or 2 weeks won't change anything (never seen any midnight release in France)

Sony is sending more consoles to North America than they are Europe, Australia and the nearby islands.
