Hello Games Reveals Ambitious Next-Gen Title, No Man's Sky

The developer that brought you Joe Danger has announced an ambitious undertaking for next-gen platforms.

Revealed during the 2013 Spike VGX Awards, Hello Games unveiled No Man's Sky, a procedural science-fiction adventure inspired by Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke.

The trailer shows off both exploration and space combat and believe it or not, Hello Games has a grand total of four people on staff. And although they didn't mention specific platforms, we know it's a next-gen project so we have to assume it'll be available on the PlayStation 4. Studio boss Sean Murray said they wanted to "make a game that was real" and for this game, "if you can see it, you can walk there." That's quite the vision, wouldn't you say?

Planets have their own ecology and ecosystems and as everyone is playing in the same universe, we'll all experience those persistent features at different times and in different ways. This could be pretty damn amazing provided they aren't overshooting...

Wow, what a vision and step up for Hello Games. Color me interested. I haven't flown anything in outer space in an age.

BTW, when and why did the VGA's become something called VGX?

Same here WoW! Ready to explore! My favorite part was shooting threw the meteor. Scenes looked like Star Wars. Day one purchase here.

This was the single biggest thing at VGX. Kinda sad when you think about it... But this looks truly, truly amazing.

Sounds cool, but the video has been removed. Am interested in seeing what it's all about.

Can't get excited about this game, but you would get excited about a ... more open joe danger game.....

I think you have brain diseases...all of them.

@xenris,

This diagnosis is unnecessary, we all already know this.

Too much Australian sun, and one too many drug induced walkabouts have taken their toll on Blank Line's mind. :)

Amazing looking game! I've always wanted a game that let me explore alien worlds and this looks to be just that. The red trees looked so awesome! Its amazing that such a game could come from 4 [obviously talented] people, I'm justsworried their vision is to broad for what they can reasonably achieve. Still, the highlight of a rather disappointing VGAs.

Wow - sounds almost too good to be true. And all that from a four member team?

Well, one reason is of course the more capable hardware but just as important is the developer tools who are maturing and becoming increasingly powerful/efficient.

OMG how glad I am that the last gen is finally over and we can now get rid of those bottlenecks. Let's draw a breath of fresh air and shift gear ahead!

This is the first game I have seen that I would consider next gen.

I am very interested in it providing they can achieve their true vision of this game. I'm pretty excited.

This could be very very awesome, also I like that someone finally made seamless planet to space flying.

Hasn't been done since the PS1 to my knowledge, it was this space ship shooter game kind of like star fox, only if you just flew up you could end up in space.

There was nothing there but it was cool none the less :P

This looks brilliant - right up my alley. It's great that the machines have the power to procedurally generate ecosystems now - as people get their eye in on this, it could open up for lots of crazy indie experiences, and even big-budget stuff. I expect, given its scope, there'll be a few rough edges, but I'm going to be all over this :).
