Tomb Raider Definitive Edition Confirmed For PS4, Xbox One

We'd heard that a special next-gen version of the Tomb Raider reboot was on the way.

Now it's official. During the 2013 VGX Awards, Square Enix confirmed that the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition will launch for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 28, 2014.

This new version will offer additional polygons and new environmental effects, along with what is reported to be "real hair" for Lara. The game will run in silky smooth 1080p high-definition, although the publisher didn't specify whether or not both the PS4 and Xbox One versions would offer native 1080p resolution. If you missed out, Tomb Raider is one of the most entertaining titles of the year, and it should be even better on next-gen platforms.

Besides, you want anything called the "Definitive Edition" in your collection, right? I know I want it.

Should not be full price for those upgrading.

Lara's "real hair" was something that was a selling point of playing the PC version of the game on a high end AMD Radeon card insead of NVidia; it really looks amazing when it flaps in the wind. If it's $39.99 at retail, I wouldn't mind playing it again. It's a lot of fun and I really would like to play it with the graphic power of the PS4.

So... Console TressFX is the selling point? Okay. As per my decision to not buy cross-generation games on my PS3, Tomb Raider just got bumped to a VERY early PS4 purchase for me.

So is this the pc version or better than the pc version. I don't have it yet and was planning on getting it for pc, but if this is going to be even better then I'll wait till I get my ps4.

I'm curious about this too, cause the PC version of Lara Croft is often found on 75% discount nowadays.
In fact I almost bought it just a week or so ago.

really?
why?
so instead of spending the past year of their time, and the time of two other studios, creating a new game, they port over a game and its going to be basically the same as the PC version a year ago.
really?
yea, what, 2M new console owners would like to experience the proper tomb raider, but allot more would like to see a totally new TR!
not to mention the console version will never be as good as the PC version!
talk about a massive waste of time, and resources.........

If it's as easy to port PC code to next-gen consoles as it is rumoured to be, this really wouldn't have taken that much of an effort from Crystal Dynamics. Oh, and it's already closer to 4 million potential customers with the number of next-gen consoles sold to date so...

Besides they've already confirmed that there is another TR game in the works so it's just a matter of waiting; and more than likely it'll be ready within 18 months, considering that it's already been almost a year since the reboot dropped.

first off it took 3 teams and a year to port the game over, thats 3 teams and a years worth of work which could of been spent creating a new TR, or crystal just making it and united front games working on a new sleeping dogs.
2, yea, and how many of that 4M have already played the game?
such a waste of resources!

Your ignorance and stupidity never ceases to amaze.

Seriously, why do you even bother on this site? Just leave and go to IGN or some place where people actually care about your PC elitist crap.

This is what I was hoping and waiting for. Had a feeling they would do this.

I wanted to try the new TR but wasn't 100% sold on it, this news has me excited to try it on my PS4.
