Bungie: Destiny Multiplayer Faster, "More Lethal" Than Halo

Bungie was responsible for the wildly popular Halo franchise, so it stands to reason that fans are expecting a similar play style from Destiny.

However, the developer says there will be significant differences between the legendary IP and the team's upcoming project. During a recent Game Informer interview, Bungie multiplayer lead Lars Bakken said that the competitive multiplayer in Destiny will be "more lethal:"

"Definitely faster. If we are to talk about lethality, it's certainly more lethal than Halo. When you catch a guy with his pants down, you can take him out really quickly. And that's not even including using a heavy weapon or a super to do that. But generally, your primary assault class weapons are going to do a little more damage than what he had in Halo."

There will, however, be health and armor gauges, as there were in the Halo multiplayer. Your health will depend on your chosen class, though, and the multiplayer maps should be much more dynamic than we ever saw in Halo. Furthermore, Bungie is seeking to let players approach combat situations in different ways. Added Bakken:

"I want the game to be fast and frenetic and fun and let players come at combat opportunities in a variety of different ways," Bakken said. He also reiterated that the progress you make towards building out your character in the campaign will carry over into multiplayer."

Destiny was recently given a September 9, 2014 release date, when it will launch worldwide. Too early to be excited?

I enjoyed the original halo when playing 16 man multiplayer with friends all crowded in a small house eating pizza and making fun of each other.

After that, meh, so a faster, easy kill scenario doesn't sound interesting to me. Online MP is just not the same to me.

Fast can be good.
If it's fast like in Unreal Tournament (that franchise has for some reason really awakened in my mind lately, I really miss it!) then I will be ecstatic, no less.

I look forward to this!

@Beamboom
It could be that I mentioned Unreal Tournament as an example in a post a week or two ago, concerning backwards compatibility not being a feature on the newly current gen consoles (and the last gen, except the original PS3), but how you can generally play older games on new PCs. ;)

I find this games looks somewhat interesting to me. I'll probably keep an eye on its development and read news pertaining to that title, especially when I visit here. Then again, I read most articles, as well as the comments posted on this site. :)

I love that unreal is being talked about more. I command them to make an unreal championship 3 lol. like THAT will ever happen.

On a more serious note, it is sad how people fear the very thought of adaptation and don't want to play a shooter any faster than halo. can't there be room for slower shooters and faster twitch shooters? are people that afraid of those old school, fun, white knuckle twitch shooters? and yes, I know destiny won't be THAT fast but still....

I'm looking forward to Destiny.
I liked the way Bungie made Halo.
343 Industries have gone in a different direction.
That's OK, but it just seems more COD like to me with the constant levelling for armour and weapom upgrades whereas the original Halo series has a decent story and plenty of big machinery to bring down to size and this seems bigger and better.

I just hope this has splitscreen co op so myself and my friend can continue completing games together. Starting to get old now...who knows how many games we will have left to complete left before we get too old and boring with our responsibilities!?
