Bungie: Destiny Multiplayer Faster, "More Lethal" Than Halo
Bungie was responsible for the wildly popular Halo franchise, so it stands to reason that fans are expecting a similar play style from Destiny.
However, the developer says there will be significant differences between the legendary IP and the team's upcoming project. During a recent Game Informer interview, Bungie multiplayer lead Lars Bakken said that the competitive multiplayer in Destiny will be "more lethal:"
"Definitely faster. If we are to talk about lethality, it's certainly more lethal than Halo. When you catch a guy with his pants down, you can take him out really quickly. And that's not even including using a heavy weapon or a super to do that. But generally, your primary assault class weapons are going to do a little more damage than what he had in Halo."
There will, however, be health and armor gauges, as there were in the Halo multiplayer. Your health will depend on your chosen class, though, and the multiplayer maps should be much more dynamic than we ever saw in Halo. Furthermore, Bungie is seeking to let players approach combat situations in different ways. Added Bakken:
"I want the game to be fast and frenetic and fun and let players come at combat opportunities in a variety of different ways," Bakken said. He also reiterated that the progress you make towards building out your character in the campaign will carry over into multiplayer."
Destiny was recently given a September 9, 2014 release date, when it will launch worldwide. Too early to be excited?
