Got The PS4, So Why Am I Still Playing All My PS3 Games?

The nifty new PlayStation 4 is sitting there in the entertainment center and yet, in my "games to play" pile, there are no PS4 titles.

Well, none besides Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, because that has to be played, and I wanted to wait to finish it on the PS4 after doing the review of the PS3 version. I guess you could argue that that's one, but it's also available on current-gen consoles as well.

Aside from that, I'm done with Killzone: Shadow Fall and as I've no interest in online multiplayer, I won't be going back to it. Contrast is almost done, too, but despite the excellent concept, it's just a little too flawed for me to finish. Knack doesn't interest me from a single-player standpoint, but my girlfriend and I do intend to complete the quest co-op. That's the only time the PS4 gets turned on right now, by the way.

I wanna play Gran Turismo 6, Grand Theft Auto V and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. I never got to finish the latter, I just got GT6 (and I love it), and because of the inevitable October/November review blitz, I never got a chance to finish GTAV, either. Sure, I don't see anything on the horizon for the PS3 that I desperately need but for now, I'm playing PS3 games. Doesn't that seem a little odd with the PS4 sitting there? I bet I'm not the only one saying this right now, though...

Happens every gen. PS2 way getting the majority of my gaming time well after the PS3 came out. That said, I've bought most of the recent multiplats on PS4 over PS3 so I can't say I'm in the exact same situation. I've been playing 3DS more than anything lately though. Just finished Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and now want to catch up on Luigi's Mansion which I skipped earlier in the year. Still have to finish Batman: Arkham Origins so I plan on firing up the PS3 again too. After Dec. ends, not really sure what I'll be playing or what system will get most of my gaming time. Nothing really good seems to be on the horizon from now until Thief in Feb. Maybe some downloadable game will surprise me.

+1 - PS1 got more playtime than PS2 early (although on the PS2, as backwards compatibility worked better then ;)), and PS2 on PS3. The beauty of having both now is being able to play the small number of exclusives, and cross-gen titles on platforms that can handle them better (BF4 with 64 player conquest is a better game on next-gen).

But other than BF4 and KZ:SF MP (which is excellent), after I've finished off Doki Doki, then most of my time will be on PS3/Vita/PC until Don't Starve, and again until Drive Club, and so on. It's just the way. I wouldn't expect PS4 to take the lions share of time until next Sep/Oct/Nov, which is the way these things always roll.

Also - don't pass over Doki Doki Universe just because it looks wierd - it's a light puzzler/personality quizzer - it's just odd - but it's also kind fun :).

Having your new next gen system just sitting there isn't exactly ideal is it? When I get mine I'll play Killzone and then it's just gonna be nothing. Then Tomb Raider (which isn't exactly new) and then inFamous. Then... nothing nothing nothing. Hopefully The Evil Within around Xmas, but that's cross-gen too! It's all pretty pitiful.

Meanwhile, the JRPGs for PS3 are just flowing. Tales of Xillia 2, Symphonia Chronicles, FFX/X-2HD, Persona 5, Tales of Zestiria, Fairy Fencer F... I'll be in heaven with my PS3 for a long time while waiting for something to happen on PS4.

Reason why I am waiting a year or so to see what games come out before buying PS4.

Been replaying Beyond Two Souls to see the various difference in how the story progresses. Definitely a better story or at least more interesting than Heavy Rain, but then again, different theme altogether so maybe unfair to compare.

No interest in GTAV, the games are incredibly boring and uninteresting. Style is a bit dated as well.

Bioshock Infinite, dang I still have to play that game. Looks great and I love the Bioshock worlds.

Assassins Creed has lost my interest altogether since their mistake with directiona and ending of AC3 and I have not played but via friends (buggers) I pretty much know everything about the dang thing.

And then... I may just retire for a while from gaming until I get the PS4 next year.

Not sure why, but the original Mirrors Edge keeps popping in my mind. Must be calling me to comeback and play it. And I in the hope the second games will not be a failure being that I hate prequels and it being openworld. I hope they do not mess it up, but I am not too optimistic.

Keep playing!

THe PS3 had the luxury of having the next-gen clock churning one year prior with the release of the 360.
Right now with PS4 and XO launching first in the US it'll probably be this real slow drip feed of games. There's no hurry folks. Enjoy the plentiful quantity of whats available already for the now last-gen.

I'm sure there is a lot of people still playing their PS3 and have their PS4 as well. I made sure I finished up ACE and I had my PS4 at that time. It's not uncommon.

however, I'm in deep with the PS4. I have 4 games that I can't put down. Actually one I haven't even opened up yet. So there's also those who won't look back. I'm probably one of them at this point.

I have an Xbox One, A Ps4, a PsVita, a 3DS XL and a Ps3. I have about less than 100 games total. But I have enough to play. I find myself playing Ps3 the most, however, it's not near enough time as I'd use to play.

I can't complete any games anymore, I tend to quit the story at one point or another. Multiplayer has been the same as always. So that's getting cliche for me aka boring.

Is there something wrong with me or the games? Of course as I age I get pounded with responsibilities. But I can still find enough time to play, yet I don't.

One thing I know for sure is I don't like how we get treated by some companies, like EA and Activision with their overpriced dlc. Others force micro transactions down our throats. I feel like they're taking away what gaming is all about, having fun with the game...

Is the solution a WiiU? I'm not going crazy am I? Back then I'd play a game, finish it, then do it again a few more times. I wasn't a completionist btw, I was just playing my way. Nowadays, I just hope I get to the last mission.

The games that I actually looked forward to playing are few and far between. Like GTA(SP), then TOMB RAIDER, and FAR CRY 3 just to name a few. I just hope this current gen isn't more of the same but prettier. Because I may just give up.

How do some of you carry the fire inside you burning? (The Road, the movie reference)

I almost feel like gaming is so popular now that it has basically become a gold mine. The people digging up the gold are progressively getting very careless with how they recover the gold, they don't care if the gold itself is on top quality condition. They just wrecklessly and carelessly dig the gold without caring for its quality because there is just so much of it.

because theres no different games for it!
this has got to be by FAR THE worst launch a new systems had in a long time!
xbox one did ok with dead rising 3, but the other 2 are pretty meh been there done that.
and the ps4, well, not a SINGLE exclusive worth buying!
shadow fall is by far the worst in the series!
knack is ok if you like cartoons, but the combat is oh my god so simple a f*cking 2 year old could finish it!
gotta love how cerny tries to compensate that by making knacks health so low your dead in 2 hits!
thats lazy cheap game design at its finest!

beyond the difference, its also the wow factor thats missing.
ps3 had resistance to show off what it can do early on, not just pretty visuals, but different game design.
sadly were going to have to wait till the order 1886, which looks like wont be out till late next year.
a year with a system treating it like it was the replaced system, albeit with a shinier coat of paint.
kinda wish M$ and $ony held off till next year that way they really could of blown our socks off at the get go, instead of releasing the things and leaving people saying ok what do i do for a year?

Why do people act like this is news? This is the way things ALWAYS are at a console launch (minus Halo on the original Xbox).
Within 6-12 months games are going to be coming out in rapid succession. Time and money will be the major factors at that point.
Regardless, PS4 will have plenty of Indie Games to look forward to and I'm looking forward to playing the new Thief, inFamous, and MLB 14: The Show on my PS4 for Q1.
Yes, I'll be going through my PS3 backlog while enjoying AC4 on my PS4, but a six months to a year from now, it'll be a moot point.

That is NOT the way things "always" are. Do you know how many people were still playing original PlayStation games after the PS2 came out? Yeah, basically nobody.

Going back, if someone bought the SNES, the NES would be retired on that very day. They may go back to it down the road, sure, but for a long while after launch the SNES was it.

Precisely why I haven't gone out and bought one yet, there is just nothing for the console which will hold me. The PS3 has plenty to offer in 2014. My plan is to replay FF13 & 13-2 in prep to finish of Lighting for good. Then I will be playing Ground Zeroes * the FFX & X-2 HD Collection so with that'll I'll be into at least May/June. Then there will be the Kingdom Hearts 2.5 ReMix, so I will be quite busy and no doubt there will be a Wii-U game or two to visit for back up in case it does get slow.

I was disappointed with PSN when I first set up my PS4. I was expecting there to be some demos or other special stuff, but it was just a total bore. Looks like it took them a month to actually add anything to it. I guess that's just what early adopting is like.

You know...what the hell is wrong with people...weak lineup my ass. There are a TON of multi platformers out there...PS4 guys have 1 or 2 good exclusives and a 100 dollar cheaper pricetag. What is the world could be better then that. And what insane person actually is going to buy more the 10 ($600-700) games off the bat anyways. People are going to wait till prices come down. That is how things are.Period. Most people are gonna get cozy with 2 or 3 familar brands at first. Like assasins creed, ghosts, and infamous, battlefield 4 and lego marvels. They will not be a lot of good 3rd party stuff out for either system. BUT WHO CARES 4 or 5 playable games are what early adopters are used to! Where have you people been for the past 30 years??

None of the games out yet are games I feel like I -need- to have. You know... those games that you just can't stand not playing.

PS4 doesn't have any of those yet, for me. I -will- be buying a PS4, don't get me wrong. But not yet. Maybe not this year. Killzone might be nice and all... but I still have 4 PS3 games in shrink wrap... and there's a couple still yet to release I really want.

With limited time, I cannot justify the costs. With a 2 year old and another one due any day now (and subsequently a wife going on mat leave, so reduced income there) I simply cannot make sense of buying a PS4 yet. Not when the lineup isn't strong yet... not when we really have no idea yet what "strong" will even mean this gen.

I've been right here. And it's a combination of a weak PS4 lineup and 7 years worth of a PS3 backlog that many people have.

Exclusives are what make a new system launch. PS4 didn't have one outside of Resogun worthy of a 9 or higher in my book, and that's just not what PlayStation fans were expecting. I know the third-party games are huge and that's great. As I said, I'll be playing ACIV on PS4.

And if early adopters are "used to" the situation, than why not play PS3 games they want to play?

The $1,100 gaming PC I built this summer is sitting unused because all I play is my PS3 LOL. Right now it's GT6 and then I've got Ni No Kuni, Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction and The Last of Us sitting under the Christmas tree. I never played any of the Ratchet and Clank games, and also missed Sly Cooper and the Jak and Daxter Collection, which was stupid of me but at least I've still got them all to look forward to now.

Oh and then I've got Lightning Returns and the Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD collection pre-ordered.

I'll get a PS4 in a year or two when there's a good library of games available for it. All that's available on either next gen console now are shooters, a couple of sports games and Assassin's Creed. I'm not interested in sports games, am so bored with shooters I didn't even finish 4 of the last 5 I played, and AC didn't impress me to the point where I'd want to spend $60 on the latest installment. Though I'll probably get it when it hits the bargain bin as the pirate thing sounds somewhat intriguing.

I know, I am sitting right next to you in this camp. It has surpassed my expectations. Resogun is unreal and so fun! I cannot believe it is free with PS+! Lego Marvel Super Heroes is the best of the Lego series and is stunning on the PS4 with massive draw distance. AC4 is the best of the series and is stunning on the PS4. BF4 is broken but still fun. However, I am not impressed with the massive pop in with BF4. BF4 may be one of those games that would have benefited from 720p resolution IMHO. Thought they could have done better. KZSF, Flower, Knack and Warframe have gotten a lot of my attention as well. Not to mention I haven't played DC Universe or Contrast yet!

Other than the fast UI and beautiful graphics, the #1 thing I am loving is the DS4 controller. It's just so unbelievably better than the PS3 it's night and day.

I haven't played enough of BF4 yet but from what I've seen so far i haven't noticed any pop in. AC is awesome though..just watching the water interaction with the jack daw is something to see. The UI is very convenient only thing i wish is that we could change the background. After AC I plan on starting Shadowfall. I haven't checked out Contrast yet and I'm curious to see DC on PS4.

Weak release? To some. Personally i could only afford five games at launch and these weak games are the ones i would of brought even if there were a lot of others.

I haven't touched my ps3 since the night before the launch and I'm still enjoying every one of them, especially assassins creed and cod but killzone i traded for psn credit as I'm going to pick up lego or injustice for the ps4. Just to many shooters, bf4 and cod are all i want to play right now.

But i really don't think the line up was that bad, if i had my way i would of liked: way of the samurai 5, battlefront 3, the last guardian, soul calibur 6, fallout 5... But i can't have it my way, so i will stick with the games I've got :)

I wish Sony delayed a couple PS3 games for PS4 instead. Rain, Puppeteer and Gran Turismo 6 should have been PS4 launch titles in my opinion (judging by Gran Turismo 6's sales, that's very true).

Only games that are really holding my attention right now on PS4 are some arcade titles and AssCreed IV until March when inFamous: Second Son releases. Actually, will pick up Rayman Legends on PS4 in February since I skipped it on PS3.
