What If inFamous: Second Son Had Launched With The PS4?
The PlayStation 4 appears to be doing just fine in the sales category so far.
However, here's a question many are asking- would Sony's new console be that much more appealing if inFamous: Second Son had been a launch title? It's definitely worth considering.
A launch lineup is critical for any new system and with the delay of Watch Dogs and Driveclub, the PS4 could've really used a killer game. Second Son would've proven all the more important because Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack didn't live up to expectations, making the launch software lineup even less attractive. On top of it all, although neither game scored off the charts with critics, the inFamous titles are well loved by many PlayStation fans, and that series has earned a fiercely loyal following. The fans are vocal and very supportive.
And remember, it's an exclusive. These are precisely the titles that help push a new piece of hardware; big third-party games can help, but they're not the lifeblood of a system. Sony opted to put the new Gran Turismo on the PS3, Uncharted 4 is maybe a year off, and Second Son is the only exclusive on the immediate horizon. Lastly, don't forget that Sucker Punch's latest was one of the first games shown off when the PS4 was initially announced. It's one of the reasons why gamers everywhere viewed the new console in such a positive light; of this, I'm pretty sure.
Then again, February isn't far off so maybe it hasn't stymied PS4 sales too badly. Besides, a lot of gamers buy new consoles in preparation for the bigger titles coming down the road. But had inFamous: Second Son been available right out of the gate, I have this feeling that the PS4 would have a bit more of an edge over the Xbox One right now...
