Kingdom Hearts III Keyblade Will Be A Transforming Machine

Fans of the Kingdom Hearts franchise are plenty familiar with the Keyblade.

It's Sora's weapon and has been since the original title. However, it has gone through several transformations - literally - over the years, and the latest series entry will see an even more advanced Keyblade.

Series creator Tetsuya Nomura spoke to Famitsu (as translated by Siliconera) about Kingdom Hearts III, the anticipated new installment set for next-gen consoles. He addressed certain new gameplay features, such as "Attraction Flow," which lets you select moves based on the places you visit and the enemies you fight. He also spoke about Keyblade transformations:

"In the trailer, we saw it transform into the shape of a gun, but there are also some other unbelievable transformations. The other day, when we were checking it out, the staff member said ‘it turns into ____’ and I impulsively replied with, ‘Are you serious?’"

Nomura added that the Keyblade will "likely be used as some sort of gimmick" and that it has "infinite possibilities." Apparently, Nomura is using the word "gimmick" in its post positive sense in that statement. As for KHIII, we have nothing but the highest expectations and if the Keyblade is a transforming machine in addition to a weapon, then so be it. Nothin' wrong with a little added creativity.

Looking good. This series is already an action rpg so Square couldn't possibly mess it up,right?

I wasn't too pleased when I heard about the keyblade transforming into a gun. Seems like absolutely every game released lately has to have shooter elements forced in somewhere. But perhaps this is just an extension of the Wisdom form introduced in KH2. Either way, i'm looking forward to this.

Oh hell no... Lightning already had three games back to back, plus cameos in Dissidia, FFXIV and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. Overkill much?

Sounds pretty cool, but shut up about KH3, Nomura. It's already taken seven years for you to kick Versus/XV out the door and we still know bugger all about it and it's coming first. One thing at a time.

Yes. I love Kingdom hearts, but with FFXV already in the works for a LONG time, please focus on that and get it out!
