Sony Advises PS4 Seekers To Be Patient

When you can't find what you want, there's really only one solution: Be patient.

That's the only advice Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida can give to those who are seeking a PlayStation 4. When someone asked when we can expect to see more PS4 units at retail, Yoshida simply responded with the following on Twitter:

"Be patient."

The person who asked the question mentioned that the Xbox One is readily available at multiple major retailers, including GameStop and Amazon. Sony has said that PS4 supply will be "limited" through the end of 2013, with more shipments coming in January and February of 2014. As for the total number of worldwide sales, Yoshida said he doesn't know. Sony's goal of selling 3 million PS4 units by December 31, 2013 didn't seem out of the realm of possibility; their other goal is to sell 5 million before the end of the company's fiscal year (March 31, 2014).

So, if you don't have a PS4 just yet, accept Yoshida's advice and catch up on your PS3 backlog. You know you have one.

Every where I go there are ps4's to buy. The bad thing about the ps4 is the lack of good games on it. Worst launch for games EVER. Hell, Even the Nintendo 64 with Mario 64 was 10 times better than the games for launch for the PS4. AND I HAVE THE PS4!

Sad thing is that this year looks very dry in terms of new games coming out for it. Hopefully 2015 is a better year for the PS4.

Mario 64 was perhaps the greatest launch game of all time, so I'm not sure I agree with your comparison. And honestly, KZ, Need for Speed and Resogun, to name a few, are freaking awesome. I wonder how many people complaining about the launch lineup have actually, y'know, played the lineup...

At any rate, I certainly agree with you that it's not the BEST launch lineup of all time. But I'm enjoying my system immensely, and next year is loaded with awesome must-play titles. All good, in my opinion.

The thing is Killzone was good, not great, and let's be honest, it looked to be the most promising of all the Killzone games, but once again let everyone down.

And Resogun is cool, but people don't buy the most powerful console in the world to play an arcade style shooter or a cross gen multi-plat game like NFS.

The launch of the PS4 had one of the stronger line-ups in the history of launch games. You had _four_ quality MP shooters, a racer, a platformer, an awesome arcade game, a polished open-world adventure game, an MMO, a Lego game, a Soccer, NFL and Basketball game. Really, the lack of perspective for gamers today boggles the mind.

In the US, the N64 launched with _two_ games. Good luck if you didn't like Mario or Pilotwings.

@ethird1: I totally disagree, your perspective is flawed and seems somewhat soured. I'm more in line with telly and Axe99. If you want to compare lineups I would think that comparing the Ps3 and the Ps4 is more appropriate. The Ps3 was bare, so bare in fact it almost went the way of the dreamcast, so to say a system that had 10 games had nothing at all seems a tab bit short sighted.

I think it has to do more with it not showing off what it can do, instead of lack of software. The majority of the titles released on it were available on the PS3 and looked fairly similar, except for NBA2k14. That's why it feels like there is nothing to play on it.

The N64 coulda launched with just Mario 64 and everyone would have still be in awe of the controller, the graphics and being able to move Mario around in a 3D world.

Well if ur gettin a ps4 just for BF4, i wuld still wait until all of the issues are fixed. That entire game as so many bugs and the online connectivity for it is garbage. And thats for both consoles. I wuld wait a few more weeks/months for battlefield. Just sayin.

Yeah, I`ve heard what kind of mess that game is. But I got BF4 for Christmas, so I got to try right? Might get lucky!

But anyway, I didn`t get a PS4 just for BF4. I do plan on buying Assassins Creed, Killzone etc :)

@ King, the online issues for BF4 are far, _far_ better than they were. Prior to Christmas, it literally crashed every session, with glitches in the game as well. Since Christmas, it's been reliable, not crashing and no funny laggy glitches either (not to be confused with player lag, which will always be there).

SP campaign still has issues with saves though, so if you're getting it for SP hold off, and if you get it for MP hold off on SP until they've sorted.

Turbey - you'll be able to get on BF4 and enjoy it. The game isn't broke. It just has some hiccups but have been mostly ironed out. I've been playing it since it launched for the PS4 and I've never not been able to get on and start playing for long periods. There were some interruptions however, but it's not like I couldn't start the game back up.

I know it's early, but anyone else notice that it appears PS4 is in WAY higher demand than X1 worldwide? Gives me hope this system is really going to have some legs.

It is odd to me as well. Every place I go has a handful of xbones and zero PS4's. The fact that they say be patient makes me think they should have used a different manufacturer and not that they are making as many as the xbone but selling more. I wonder how different their yields are when compared to each other? Are they just not selling xbones? Are they just not making PS4's fast enough? Are they making them as fast as they can but don't pump out that many at a time? Are they selling at the same rate but there are a lot more xbones made?

Inquiring minds want to know!!

Stay Classy PSX...

I really don't follow sales figures much, but I was surprised to see VGChartz had the PS4 ahead by a million, yet nobody is saying anything about it. I dunno if VGChartz are that unreliable or what's the deal.

I think it's mainly because it's so early. It's hard to talk about sales when up to this point both systems have been mostly unavailable. But who knows, maybe it's just because it's Sony.

Yes, there's very little to play and I'm going to have to buy Assassin's Creed IV soon. I think a lot of companies are keeping their PS4 games under wraps from Joe Public; a lot more is coming out than what is listed on release day lists. From February 25 on there's a good amount of software I want. Just have to wait for a couple more months. Again, I'm done with PS3 gaming. Nothing I want on that aging platform.

People should be happy to wait as there is a lack of software at this time. Don't give in to Kijiji hoarders over-pricing both the PS4 and Xbox One.

The one thing we can take from this is that there most likely will be far more available than their goals. So 5 million sales by March should mean availablility. Hopefully.

weve had to wait 6 weeks so far for our next shipment, and still have another 6 weeks to go, so if thats not patient i dont know what is!
not to mention a friend of mine just got back from overseas went to put his preorder down today and was told he probably wont receive a unit till AFTER JULY!
the next shipment, the feb orders, are only enough to cover all orders up until the end of year, everyone ordered after that have to wait till the following shipment which they dont have a date for.
and that shipment assuming they receive the same quantity, will still not be enough to have on the shelf units!
my god the ps4s making the wii look like a commodity!
id be easier to bring world peace than it is to find a available ps4!

and yet $onys still trying to con people into buying their TVs or phones and such, or the pizza hut competition, to go into a "draw" to win one.
ok you have thousands to give away in draws, but zero to sell to your loyal fans who have dropped 550+ bucks on one and waited MONTHS!?
yup, thats $ony for ya.
great customer support they have..............

$ony couldent of botched the ps4s launch any worse even if their lives depended on it!
i mean there strongest market got it 2 weeks after the US, and a week after the competition released their system.
their home town is not getting it till feb, a full 4 months after everyone else!
theres no big first party titles available on launch day, and the only racer they announced got delayed out of launch.
a playstation releasing without a racer, thats like PC releasing without a shooter!
come on PS has ALWAYS had a racer available on launch, in fact theve always been the tide titles to tide people over for months till other titles release.
and now we have nothing!

then theres the rare and infrequent stock piles, the faulty launch day systems, the PSN server issues, the forced plus subscription for MP, and the missing system and network features.
seriously, $ony, HURRY THE F&CK UP AND PATCH IN THE SYSTEM STAND BY PAUSE AND RESUME GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
come on the xbox one had this on DAY ONE!
which one is the gamers system again?
the one with a dedicated share mutimedia button, or the one which had proper standby features from DAY ONE!?
yup, they couldnt of botched the release more if their lives depended on it!

just because its selling well does not mean it was not botched.
this has been by far the longest weve ever had to wait for new systems, SEVEN freaking years!
so of course there going to fly out of the gates, especially when the prices are HALF of what they use to be!

Anyone still looking for one should check out nowinstock.net. You can put product trackers and alerts on the PS4 for a bunch of different retailers. The website basically monitors the sites you select and sends you alerts when they are in stock. Yesterday, I put a tracker on for Amazon(since it said the PS4 was floating in and out of stock), so I could know when I could even pre-order it through them, since I had a $250 gift card to burn. A couple of hours later, I got a text saying it was available for pre-order and would be in stock on Jan 11. I hopped on and placed and order within 5 minutes, no problemo. I was surprised when, a couple of hours after that, they said my PS4 was in shipping and would be here by Jan 6. Maybe I just got lucky, but it is worth a try.
