Japanese PSP Slim Pre-Orders: One Per Customer

Amazon U.S. is already offering three pre-order bundles for the new PSP Slim (PSP-2000), and so is Amazon Japan...oh wait, so was Amazon Japan.

The world's biggest online retailer has already been forced to stop taking pre-orders on the freshly revamped handheld, much to the chagrin of many a Japanese gamer. The PS3 was almost impossible to find upon the system's launch in November of 2006 in Japan, but now, could they be facing another hardware shortage once this new redesigned PSP hits in September? According to Kotaku, the Sofmap in Akihabara is posting ad signs in their windows, saying they have to limit PSP-2000 reservations to one per customer. Obviously, this is due to potential hardware shortages.

Granted, the PS3 has been in full manufacturing swing for quite some time now - it was more readily available a lot faster than the Xbox 360 at the start of 2006 - but Sony doesn't want to repeat that early shortage mistake in Japan with the new PSP. On the other hand, this is all good news, given the fact the PSP has been lagging so far behind the Nintendo DS in Japan. Looks like they really like this redesigned portable!
