PSP News: Sony Denies PlayStation Phone - PSP News

Sony Denies PlayStation Phone

Well, maybe Sony is just in their classic, "we never announce anything until there's something to announce" mode. Either that, or it's just another rumor from an unconfirmed source, and Sony isn't interested in letting it slide.

A few days ago, it appeared as if Sony had confirmed the existence of a PlayStation Phone, which still seems like a good idea to us. However, if you notice, the quote from Jim Ryan isn't confirming anything; he's just saying the concept is "definitely plausible." And now, Sony flat-out denies any such project, according to CVG, saying that Ryan's statement to The Economic Times of India was a misquote. They will say they're "talking" about "various topics," but at this time, there is no PlayStation Phone.

"Jim Ryan was in fact misquoted by the Economic Times of India about this issue," a Sony UK spokesperson told CVG. "We do have talks with other arms of the Sony family about various topics but I can confirm we are not currently working together on the creation of a PlayStation Phone."

Well, that's that. At least for now. We all know it won't be long before the rumor surfaces somewhere else, because if there's one thing that video game journalism has taught us, it's this- popular rumors can never die.
