PSP Is Sony's Best Performer In 2007

Earlier last year, nobody would've believed that the PSP would be 2007's top performer for Sony. Nobody. But everything changed with the release of the new Slim PSP (PSP-2000) and the arrival of several unbelievable titles, and according to Exophase, the PSP did pretty darn well.

Sony sold 13.89 million units globally, which is up significantly from the 9.53 million they sold during the previous fiscal year. Even the seemingly timeless PS2 couldn't top the PSP; the aging console sold 13.73 million, and 9.24 million consumers picked up the PlayStation 3. However, despite the good news for the PSP, the software attach rate didn't rise significantly - it hardly rose at all - in fact; software sales sat at 55.5 million for fiscal 2007 compared to 54.7 million for the previous year. As of now, Sony hasn't issued any expectations for fiscal 2008, although we do imagine that with all the great titles currently available, the software attach rate should be on the upward track.

Sony did say, however, that they expect total software sales for the PS3, PSP and PS2 to hit 250 million during fiscal 2008, and that's a very impressive number. For now, though, they can take solace in the fact that both the PSP and PS3 are becoming much bigger sellers worldwide.
