Crytek Seeking PSP Programmer

Ready at Dawn has already moved past the PSP - after delivering one of the best handheld titles ever in God of War: Chains of Olympus - so perhaps we need another top-notch developer to back Sony's portable. Could it be that Crytek, the masterminds behind Crysis for the PC, might be trying their hand at it? Well, according to a recent job posting, it seems inevitable...

If you take a gander at this position listing over at Crytek's website, you'll see it very clearly: they're looking for a PSP programmer. We can only begin to wonder what Crytek project may be on tap for the PSP, which has enjoyed a healthy resurgence as of late. There have been plenty of rumors flying around about Crytek jumping on the PlayStation 3 development bandwagon, so if those rumors are true, perhaps they want to give another Sony platform a shot. Of course, one could consider the idea that Crysis could come to the PSP, but we find that highly unlikely. That's one game that probably wouldn't survive the heavy transition very well, and we honestly don't want to see them try.

But at the same time, there's no doubt that Crytek knows what they're doing when it comes to game development, so we have high expectations. As soon as we hear more about this, we'll be sure to let you know.

On the PSP it would be tough, however, Crysis on the PS3 should be beautiful. Wouldn't mind hearing more news about what they may be up to.

It would be funny if Crysis came to the PS3, but not the 360.

Crytek's games are both visually wonderful, maybe thats why they chose it over the DS?

I believe Crytek would be a whole lot better if they knew how to code. I mean, when i'm only getting 30-40fps with 2 8800's and NASA hasn't even been able to run Crysis on max there is something very wrong with your engine. Other then that they do make good games and i'm looking forward to what they do with the PS3 hardware and possibly PSP hardware.

So far though, to get a decent engine running natively in 1080p has been a dog for developers on the PS3. GT5 seems to have done it, but there is the occasional tearing. Bad Company is another game that runs at 1080p, there too, in certain spots tearing becomes an issue. The reality is for true true HD gaming the PS3 falls short, unless we have not seen yet masterly programming highly optimised code being processed at full hilt. Maybe the second generation of games to come out on the PS3 from 2009 to 2011 will show us what is possible. I think LittleBigPlanet will run in 1080p - natively, but not Killzone2 :( ...eventhough it should.

Once the Dev tools become even more user friendly you WILL see a Crysis type game on the PS3.Never be fooled the Cell-RSX combo is unmatched to anything on the market today and 3 yrs out.PS3 is still a young system and the games of the future on this system will be unmatched. When I first heard about the Cell and Sony's involvement I realized that Sony was actually thinking more about the true hardcore gamer.Me being 35 and been playing vid games since I was 5 I can honestly say that the PS3 is a true future proof system that no one can match(unless microsoft makes a PS3 clone)all microsoft has is xboxlive,PC's today are more advanced then the x360 and it hasn't been 5 yrs yet for that system.I know I'm preaching But I've been following the development of the Cell and working at Intel myself know what a marvel this chip and Sony has done.Took a radically advance system and made it afforable for us to play games and watch/listen to HD films.Tip my hat off to you Sony. You've earned my buck.

"One of the best handheld games ever in Chains of Olympus". Really, I don't remember the game because I finished in one bathroom sitting.
