Square-Enix Intends To Acquire Tecmo

When Squaresoft and Enix merged, many RPG fans figured they had just created a role-playing juggernaut, simply based on the stellar history of the two publishers. But many will argue that Squaresoft's games were better than Square-Enix's games (with the exception of a few FF titles), so how will things change when the veteran game maker acquires Tecmo?

Yes, you read that correctly. According to Kotaku, Square-Enix will soon be outlining their plans "for a friendly takeover" of Tecmo, who has been struggling in the industry recently. Square-Enix and names like "Ninja Gaiden" or "Dead or Alive" may not gel in your mind, but you're gonna have to get used to it, because this move will certainly benefit both parties. Square-Enix wants to continue to open themselves up to the ever-widening Western games market, and Tecmo - quite frankly - needs some help. By the way, in case some of you are forgetting your history, Square-Enix also acquired Taito back in 2005, although that deal didn't get anywhere near as much press as the Squaresoft/Enix merger. If and when Square-Enix puts Tecmo under their umbrella, that will add diversity to the publisher's lineup, and Tecmo can feel better about their business future.

We'll have to keep an eye on the proceedings as time goes on, and if this goes through, we'll be sure to let you know about it. Square-Enix and Tecmo could be a match made in heaven; you never know.

Yep, I can't wait!
I'll get it, but not until later.
I'll have to wait for the reviews.
