SCEA Injects Strict Updates Into PSN User Agreement

Everything is receiving an upgrade these days, and that includes the terms of service for PlayStation Network members.

Last week, SCEA sent out the legal amendments to the user agreements we all signed electronically some time ago, and you had to agree if you wished to remain a user. First on the list and according to GameSpot, we find a number of "new provisions dealing with player privacy and user-created content." Now, players are not allowed to tell anyone their real names or "any other personally identifying information." However, at the same time, Sony still holds the right to share personal information with third parties for the intended purpose of "providing access to PSN content." Oh, and here's a big one- you now give Sony permission to "monitor and record" all your activities when logged in to the Network, and if necessary, they can turn over your user ID and IP address to "the appropriate authorities." All of this is understandable for the most part, but the next bit may upset a few people who suffered "bricked" systems due to damaged firmware updates.

According to the new agreement, Sony will no longer be liable for any damage incurred from a downloading content or automatic updates and upgrades. Because of this, they "recommend that your regularly back up any data located on the hard disk." This may cause some people to be a bit more cautious about downloading updates, but then again...there isn't much you can do about it. Such is the way of big business, fellow gamers.
