PSXE Best Of The Best Poll Update: Ratchet And Clank Golden
Another piece of the puzzle falls into place, as the PSXE readers have determined the Best Platformer on the PS2: Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal.
The original broke new ground in the platforming world and provided gamers with a brand new - albeit funny-lookin' - hero who kicked ass with his dry-witted, sarcastic metallic buddy, Clank. But Insomniac had only just started and the series continued to grow and mature. Up Your Arsenal is arguably the best PS2 installment in the series; many critics will claim it's the most accomplished, and in our experience, the majority of Ratchet fans agree with this assessment. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy put up a good fight and platforming aficionados could debate for hours over whether Ratchet or Jak would win in a straight-up battle, but this particular fight is over. Up Your Arsenal is the clear-cut winner, and let's not forget Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, which had an admirable showing. Here are the final results:
Gold Medal: Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Silver Medal: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Bronze Medal: Maximo: Ghosts to Glory
Now that we've established the best PS2 platformer, it's time to move on to what should be the most competitive genre battle: the best PS2 Action/Adventure title. As the PS2 isn't home to a large number of top FPSs, we're including the shooters in this category, although fighters and sports/racing will have separate contests. Also, as there is no end to the argument over which Grand Theft Auto title is best, we're giving you the option of picking your favorite and voting for it. We figure that's fair, so get voting!
