Star Ocean: Second Evolution Hits Europe On February 13
Role-playing fans have usually been able to turn to the PSP in order to receive their RPG fix, and if you live in Europe, another great one is coming down the pike in exactly one month's time.
According to UK gaming site Electronic Theatre, Square-Enix has announced that Star Ocean: Second Evolution is scheduled to launch "across Europe and all PAL territories" on February 13, 2009. This remastered production of Star Ocean: The 2nd Story on the original PlayStation features a revised game engine, improved battle system, and even all-new cut-scenes complete with voice acting. If you didn't get a chance to play The 2nd Story, the game didn't use voiceovers, which were rare in those days. Said John Yamamoto, president and CEO of Square-Enix:
"2009 is set to be a landmark year for the Star Ocean series, I'm delighted that new fans can continue to experience this classic series with the release of Star Ocean: Second Evolution for PSP and I hope players are excitedly looking forward to the forthcoming release of Star Ocean: The Last Hope."
Yes, well, PlayStation 3 owners won't be able to enjoy The Last Hope, but if it turns out to be as mediocre as The Last Remnant, perhaps they won't care so much. For PSP owners, especially those who have bought and played Star Ocean: First Departure, this remake of a sequel could be just the ticket. And hey, if you're looking for one of the very first examples of a hybrid turn-based/real-time RPG, Second Evolution is a great option.
