Rumor: Silent Hill Remake For PSP?

It was the first real competitor to Capcom's popular Resident Evil franchise, and many fans of the burgeoning genre would even say that Silent Hill was creepier and more atmospheric in some ways. Wouldn't it be nice to relive the original experience in portable fashion?

According to the Videogaming247 blog, it seems that UK developer Climax is working on a remake of Silent Hill for both the PSP and Wii. The latter project will make use of the motion-sensing control scheme for torch functions in the game, and we have no solid details on the PSP version. Neither Climax or Konami has commented on the issue, though, so this remains classified as a rumor. The original Silent Hill was released way back in 1999 - perhaps it makes sense to celebrate its 10th anniversary? - and it kicked off a new survival/horror series that produced several nightmarishly frightening installments. As for evidence of this remake, you can visit the Climax website; the project in question is that "New Wii and PSP Game" in the bottom left. Konami does have a PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 project in the works as well, but that's looking like more of a standard, big-budget title that we may hear about at this year's E3.  Wonder what that one is...

For our part, we wouldn't mind seeing a Silent Hill remake on the PSP. It would let gamers in a new generation experience a title that marked a coming-of-age revolution for the genre in question. Sure, RE blazed the trail, but in many ways, SH helped.

Oh man this would be awesome, now a Remake of SH2 for my ps3 and we're golden.

Oh man this is great news! Maybe I should get a psp someday, now all I need is a SH2 remake on my ps3. Honestly though, SH2 and the series are the only games that actually created tension and got me a bit jumpy while in the dark and playing alone. The atmosphere and music set a much darker tone for the series. RE was kind of "scary" but it was more about holding your own against hordes of zombies and abominations.

I haven't bought a game for my PSP since Crisis Core, I would buy this for sure.

Yay for jumping to conclusions when it was never said it was a remake or for sure it was Silent Hill! Not to mention the only time horror was mentioned was with the PS3/360 title.

Funny how these rumors spread!

I'm sold if it's a Silent Hill game. RE and SH are my favorite survival horror series. I have all of them, but would still love to get a remake on the PSP!

it doesn't need a remake for the psp can't you just download it from the PS Store? not like the graphics are that much better...(is it ever good news when a game only comes out for psp and wii?)
Didn't homecoming just come out? oh, well the more the merrier. Silent Hill 2 is my favorite.

.....Theres no need SH stands stong today, By the way, Silent Hill: Homecoming is out in the UK tommorrow, does anyone know if there has being any censoring?

I think if you dig the Silent Hill franchise you will like SH Homecoming. The bosses are pretty sweet! I bought it and I have no regrets. Homecoming also stays true to the multiple weird endings.

so ive heard, but SH is one of my favourite game series, it doesnt look that bad and if so then i alwasy have Siren: Blood Curse, which was fantastic. but yeah, if anyone could find out if the UK version is censored or not id really appreaciate it.

I've yet to play Siren, I need to pick that up. Not sure why I haven't yet since all I've heard is how great it is. In regards to your question I know it was censored for Germany and Australia. Since it was delayed for Europe I'm assuming it was censored as well however I don't think any of this censoring would lesson anyone's enjoyment of the game.

i hope not, some of the features look good, like i saw him tear down a door with an axe and it took my favourite aspect of the movie, with the transition happening the ash rises.

what concerns me is the price street fighter was £35, i saw GAME piricing SH5 for £45, which is absurd how can there be £10 difference in a new relase price, nietehr were special editions, im goign to see if its cheaper in Gamesation or HMV.

I don't think SH: Homecoming was censored anywhere actually, well maybe in Australia. But I def haven't seen any evidence.

Just looked on the BFFC, its not cut :D, didnt know they tell you every film, game thats been cut or not, kept me busy searching stuff.

I will never forget playing Silent Hill for the first time on ps1. That was probably the scariest game I've ever played. It was the first of the series so everything was for the first time. And that freakin' alarm/horn going off just before everything goes to s**** that was scary as F****. Since then every time I hear that I get goosebumps. Anyway I still have the collectors edition of Silent Hill (2,3,4) and I'll be picking up Homecoming soon. So getting the Original Silent hill on PSP will be awesome...
