Gran Turismo PSP Confirmed For 2009?

How long have we been hearing about the possibility of a Gran Turismo for the PSP? We can't pin it down exactly, but our estimate is: a long time.

But it seems we have an unofficial release confirmation from an inside source at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. According to Agent-X at HipHopGamerShow, the source said- "I actually know a lot, but I will only tell you this one even though I am not suppose to, Gran Turismo will be making its way to the PSP this year." In addition, he said that Yamauchi didn't initially like the idea of porting his legendary franchise to the handheld - presumably due to the amount of gimping that would have to take place - but in the end, he decided it'd be a good idea. At the previous link, you can read the IM conversation that led to this discovery, but of course, until we see something concrete from Sony, we have to label this as rumor. The idea of a GT coming for the PSP in 2009 isn't too far-fetched; Sony has said multiple times this that this could be "the year of the PSP," what with all the great software on tap. If the inside information is true, it's likely we'll see the announcement at E3, where it has been said that many more PSP titles will be unveiled.

We know that PSP owners have been waiting for a Gran Turismo for quite some time, so it'd be awesome news if it finally dropped later this year.

Instant blockbuster status and system seller. If they bundle this with a custom PSP-3000 (or even with a new '4000' model) I can see a lot of PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 owners - me for one - jumping at the chance to fork out for a new custom system with a Gran Turismo themed casing.

Heck I could see a hell of a lot of PS2 and PS3 owners who haven't dipped into the PSP market jumping at this.

Man I hope this is a real and accurate story, and not wishful thinking on behalf of your source...

Great, but can't they have just put GT4 on PS3 at it's launch. Kinda dumb to release PS3 without it's best exclusives.

Isnt GT5 suppose to hit "all platforms" at the same time? If thats true then we might just get GT5 for ps3 in 2009! I am really pumped about this now!

What timezone are you guys working on now, why are articles getting put up so early now? I like to read them throughout the day not all at once. I know I can just read them anytime I want to but they are addictive so I tend to read them all in one shot. Sorry for being so off subject.

Anyways, this sounds like a system seller to me. I will definately pick one up since GT's production is so much better when it comes to racing.

HOLD ON A SECOND GUYS!

If you guys analyzed Amar's poetic code from GTP, it is said that all versions of GT5 from all realm(system) will come out at the same time globaly.BUT, it also said that the other version of GT will come out in a realm (system) that is not yet known by us (psp2?).

So, its either we're getting the psp2 (or watever) this year, or this is a fake.

I also want to add that the unrevealed system that is unknown to us might be compatible with old psp games (umd), so this rumor has a slight leverage from that.

Makes me wonder that perhaps the next psp won't be using umds..?

Never mind guys. I read the thing again and it doesn't say all the versions of GT from all realms(systems) would come out at the same time, but it did say it will all be presented at E3 in June.

But I stand corrected that the "other" version of GT will be released on a system that is not yet known by us. It said that it will not be released on something that we already know, which are pc, psp, ps2, etc.

Well, I want to know about Gran Turismo 5. By the way, it would be AWESOME if the next PSP (PSP2?) comes with a Cell Processor.. just think about it.. how much a Cell Processor cost?

I doubt a cell would happen in the next psp. The single PPC core on the PS3's cell would completely destroy the psp's processor but it would also generat quite a bit more heat. I would assume they are going with some kind of multi-core setup, but sony does some weird things with their hardware for no reason at all.

I dont know, definite buy for PS3 version of Gran Turismo. Unless its a complete different tracks, i dont see any reason to buy the same thing for PSP.

I can see interplayabilty between the PSP and PS3 GTs. Resistance 2 and Resistance Retribution did it pretty awesomely.

GT5 is so massive, how can a psp hold all that information? How could it even play on a psp? Not enough memory. The load times on a psp are way too slow. I just don't see how it could work unless it is really scaled down and made to look cartoony, like most psp games. I think I would rather just have the ps3 version.

You're not thinking. The version of GT5 on PS3 contains all the data and graphical/audio assets for a game that runs at up to 1920x1080 with HD audio. For the PSP version the screen resolution is about a tenth of the size, resulting in the game needing far, far less data, audio is more limited as well, as is any FMV included. The amount of car model data and other information would be similarly limited due to the processing power on the PSP not be able to cope with such complex models. So, it's not a case of trying to shoe horn the whole of GT5 onto the PSP, it's more a case of porting the car and track models and graphics to a PSP specific game engine.

I think they should do remakes of all Gran Turismo games(1 through 4) for the psp and the ps3. I believe they could do that and make it work good, but like I said in another post, I don't see how they can make a massive game like GT5 work, and still have a really quality game as the ps3 version. If they can't make those remakes, I would like to see a classic ps1 game version on of Gran Turismo 2 on psn. That game was the best back then.

@TheHighlander: Like I said scaled down with a cartoony look in the graphics. No match for the ps3 version. I still had rather just have the ps3 version.
