Vector, NCOF Team Up To Combat Childhood Obesity

Although this doesn't specifically involve PlayStation platforms, it does involve a general gaming issue and one that certainly needs to be addressed. On a personal level, as I have always tried to remain a healthy gamer, it's these types of initiatives that will see a future of other equally healthy gaming fans.

Today, Vector Entertainment "announced an association with the National Childhood Obesity Foundation (N.C.O.F.) to encourage children to make wise choices by playing and eating smartly." Vector has a casual multiplayer game, called Vector City Racers, designed specifically for the 6-12 demographic and the NCOF will provide content for contests and prizes. Furthermore, for every monthly membership the Vector Racers Community nets, Vector Entertainment will donate 25 cents to the NCOF. If you hadn't noticed, childhood obesity is indeed a serious problem today, and although we don't like the fact that gaming is a convenient scapegoat, one has to admit it's a mostly sedentary activity. Said Executive Vice President of Vector Entertainment, Nique Fajors:

"As parents, we understand the importance of teaching children about limitations – on the playground, with their food choices, and when it comes to screen time. We are providing an interactive environment that is easy to get into and play, where kids can be creative and race against other kids in a safe environment. By incorporating lessons about healthy living, nutrition and making smart choices into our community, we are providing an incredible value to everyone that visits our site. N.C.O.F.® reminds us that kids learn by example – and as parents we have a responsibility to give our children the opportunity to make healthy food and lifestyle choices."

The NCOF is also developing a special educational program called T.H.I.N.K.SM - Teaching Health in Nutrition & KinesiologySM - that will educate parents, teachers and children in the area of nutrition and health. It's all about eating smart and playing smart; or in fact, the "Eat Smart, Play Smart" philosophy. As for the game in question, Vector City Racers "is an integrated game experience that combines the depth of a MMO and the competition of circuit track racing in a casual environment." The title is currently in a closed beta test and for more information, feel free to visit the game's official page.
