Polyphony Wants To Attract New Fans With Gran Turismo PSP

It's known only as "Gran Turismo" or, if you want to differentiate it from the original PlayStation title, "Gran Turismo PSP."

Maybe some of you are wondering why series creator Kazunori Yamauchi decided on such a bland title for this new portable entry in the legendary series (the first on a handheld, we remind you). Well, according to Kotaku, it's because Polyphony wants to target new players in a new generation. They want to appeal to those who may be reluctant to suddenly dive into a decade-old series and they want a whole new group of racing fans to gain an interest, to "experience the thrill of learning how to drive." In the past, Yamauchi said he considered other names for this portable iteration, including Gran Turismo Portable and Gran Turismo Spyder, but he didn't want to make everyone think it "was anything less than a fully-specced Gran Turismo." So that's the reason for the name, and it's clear that with such a project, Polyphony wants to drag in a whole host of new gamers that have never participated in the "ultimate driving experience" before. And you know what we say to that? Welcome to the party!

Not surprisingly, the game should look amazing when it finally releases, and that's when you can embark on your portable racing simulation entertainment. You'll love it, we promise.

Gran Turismo 2 had the same idea in mind, and that sold like crazy.

It was a bit more Arcade-ish in some respects. And they added rally to attract even more people

It was a huge success

Call it whatever you like because it's going to be one of the great games on the PSP. Maybe it should have been called Gran Turismo Exhausted because they have been working on this and GT5 for years.

I'm really curious how the PSP GT and the PS3 GT5 are going to interact wtih one another. I can't wait to start unlocking cars. 800 on the PSP alone...Wow...just Wow.

I think it will be the other way around. I believe that GT PSP will draw more people to the PSP.

BTW, like Scarecrow said, good avatar.

That's what I'm wondering, if it's going to be compatible then does that mean the PS3 version will only have 800 cars too, to not leave out people on the psp? No idea, but the game looks incredible, I still haven't bought GT5P due to my lack of buying a demo stand, but I've been temped, hopefully it'll be out soon @_@

Actually, GT5 will most likely have less cars than GT PSP. The level of detail in 5, makes GT PSP look like Forza. Plus, GT PSP, doesn't have the tuner garage, so you can't upgrade your vehicles. So, it's definitely missing some GT stuff, but they're compensating by adding a huge amount of cars.

Can't wait though, this may actually push me to get a PSP hah. Been wanting one for awhile, just haven't gotten around to getting one.

If we see this released as a bundle with PSP Go! I will picking them up. I just don't like carrying my PSP with me, too bulky. I can play GT, Metal Gear and FF on PSP Go! at work, wooh!

Preloaded! The PSP Go bundle will come with the game preloaded in memory, or will come with a voucher for a free dowmload of the game, and only that game.

When it realeses it will be the best racing game on psp.

So psp users will get it for sure.

GT is more than "real driving." It's also 'bout the cars and going on a world tour against the best cars in the world.

SOMETHING WHICH ONLY HAPPENS IN GRAN TURISMO***

They should call it Gran Turismo Portable since it is on the PSP plain and simple. It will help sell alot of PSP Go's. That's until Metal Gear comes out.

Am I the only person wondering how they are going to fit 800 cars into a PSP title? I would imagine it will not be physically available. I haven't seen game use 2GB yet on PSP.
