SCEJ Announces PlayStation Portable New Hunters Pack

It's true that most Monster Hunter fans seem to reside in Japan, which is why Sony and Capcom have come together to deliver a couple gifts to those who have made the franchise such a huge success.

As Andriasang reports, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced the PlayStation Portable New Hunters Pack, which comes in either Radiant Red or Vibrant Blue. They're set to release on July 23 with a price of 21,000 yen; each package will boast the specially decorated PSP-3000 unit, a copy of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (known as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in this country), an AC adapter and a battery pack. If you're wondering why this game gets such special treatment, you clearly haven't been paying attention to sales charts from Japan. This title is routinely in the top 10 week in and week out and it has helped Monster Hunter become one of the most lucrative franchises in the entire industry. Of course, North Americans and Europeans don't flock to the games nearly as much, which is why you had best import one of these nice packages if you're interested. Waiting will get you nowhere. Even so, we would like to say that we get plenty of cool PSP bundles; there are many examples in the past year, and you can bet Sony will build PSP bundles around something like Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker...

So anyway, not to torture you or anything, but these Monster Hunter packages are sweet. See what happens if you reward a publisher? They'll often repay the favor.

I have some friends who SWEAR by Monster Hunter on the PSP. I played it with them for a bit and felt it was akin to having little needles rammed through my fingernails. That game is so boring and irritating to play, I don't think I'll ever touch the series again. At least not on a handheld.

You know, I was just reading some reviews of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and wondering if I should try it out. I've never actually played any of the Monster Hunter games before and I kind of want to know what all the fuss is about.

Sounds like a pretty big time sink, though.

Yeah, I've never played any of the Monster Hunters before, but I would like to try it out. With good console game releases being slow lately... I will probably pick this up.

That is how I finish many of my PSP games, on a trip from NY to Las Vegas or on the way back.
5 hours to kill... I use my PSP a lot less now that I don't travel as much as I used to :-(
I have always been curious about Monster Hunter... I'll try and find a used PS2 copy and see how it plays.

I gave the demo a try, the game might be fun over the long haul but I will never be getting there due to a terrible camera system. Working the camera is a full time job and hard as hell thanks to the terrible control layout.

i went into the game basically hating it, well because i don't play Japanese games. I played the demo just last night and it was fun, the demo has over 2 hours of play time alone, so im guessing you get alot for your money with the full version, if they released that bundle here, I'd buy it.

What was your take on the camera system? I too downloaded and played it last night (I'm a psp whore) and I could not get past the camera problems. This is one of the few times the camera has become simply unbearable to me.

I didn't have a real problem with the camera.

well it was kind of an inconvenience, i will admit that, but if I spent enough time with the game i'd propably get used to it eventually. I too am a PSP whore, and proud of it. The battle system is alright.

you get used to the camera, just keep tapping the L shoulder button as you run around to center the camera at first. then you can set your finger on the directional pad and move it around that way once you get used to being bad-ass.

the game is well worth the money in terms of playtime and replay value. i have put over 1300 hours into the series.

back on topic, i wont get these only for the simple reason that i already picked up the bronze monster hunter psp.
