Valkyria Chronicles 2 Website Opens
Some fans of the original Valkyria Chronicles were a little upset to learn that a much-anticipated sequel would actually release on the PSP. However, we have to assume that handheld aficionados will be quite satisfied.
Not long after the game was revealed in the latest edition of Famitsu, Sega has gone and launched the official website. There isn't much content yet, but you can read the first page of the developer's blog, check out a few early screenshots, and examine the latest news (hope you can read Japanese). As you can see by the screenshots, the style and artistry of the PS3 title is evident, despite having to suffer from the obvious drawback of lesser hardware. Andriasang went ahead and translated the dev diary, and it explains that VC2 is on the PSP "to expose the series to a greater variety of users," and it further tells us that this is indeed a "true sequel." The game takes place in 1937, two years after the storyline found in the original title, and you will take control of Aban Hadens, a student who joined up with the Ranseal Royal Military Academy after the unfortunate death of his older brother. This is about the extent of our knowledge right now, although we certainly expect that site to receive plenty of updates in the coming months. Perhaps we'll also get an estimated launch date, too, and maybe news that some other VC title might be headed to the PS3... Really, many fans of the first game aren't too happy.
But then again, exclusive titles really do have difficulty breaking a lot of sales barriers, and we have to remember that VC didn't really start selling well in the U.S. until several months after its release, when Sega dropped the price and critics everywhere were literally screaming at gamers to buy it. We told you it was great, too. ;)
