Rumored PlayStation Price Cuts Include PSP Go?
When we heard that several price cuts were in store for the "PlayStation family of products," we knew that included the PS3 and we pondered the possibility of the PSP-3000 or the PS2. We would never have considered the PSP Go...
Officially unveiled at this year's E3, this all-digital piece of technological wizardry is supposed to launch on October 1 with a price tag of $250. At the time, many gamers responded with skepticism to that price, although Sony insisted it was fair, considering everything you get with the PSP Go and the fact that the original PSP launched at the same price. That couldn't stop the negative press, though, so perhaps Sony is taking the appropriate strides...? According to PSInsider, there appears to be a good chance that we'll see price cuts for both the PS3 and the currently unreleased PSP Go. There's also the chance of seeing the PS3 Slim introduced at a cheaper price, too, but for now, our focus is on that new handheld iteration. There has been plenty of good feedback concerning the benefits and merits of the new portable, and really, the only major complaint has focused on the retail price (well, that, and the lack of a second analog stick). We suppose Sony might offer a watered-down PSP Go for a cheaper price, but that's just more speculation...
Well, whatever happens, we shouldn't have much longer to wait. All of this should be cleared up at the GamesCom event in Cologne on August 18. So you don't need to squirm in your seat forever.

If half of the rumours are true though, it almost seems like Sony has finally been forced to rethink their pricing strategy a bit. Of course if they start cutting prices to sell units, it usually means that some other division will get a lowered budget to compensate..let's hope it's not the marketing department..lol.

PS2=$79(or give BC to the ps3's and kill the PS2)
PSP-3000=$100
PSP-go=$149
PS3 slim=$249(with 160g)
PS3 fat=$300(with 250g to 500g)
from what I have seen (not much really) the fat ps3 look more high end than the slim,so the slim should be cheaper but I'm probably wrong.

If this shakes out as rumored along with a new PS3 slim with a $299 price tag we could see a real Battle Royal between the 360 Elite and PS3 competing on an even price point.
Now I ask you, if you have a choice between a PS3 and an Xbox 360 Elite at the exact same price, which would you choose? Which is the better deal? Seems obvious enough to me that the PS3 is the winner there - as it should be.

Check the price of an Elite 360...They have a list price of $399 brand new. Not a very well known fact that. Elite 360s are priced at the same point as a standard PS3, and yet there's this idea that the PS3 is wildly expensive.
If the 360 Pro was dropped, and MS knocked 25% off the price of an Elite, it would sit at $299. Which is exactly where everyone expects the PS3 slim to land after it's announced along with a presumed price reduction.
As prices drop, it becomes harder to use price as a differential you have to compete on features and games. To me, Sony has that sewn up for the next 12-18 months.
