Capcom May Bring Breath Of Fire Titles To The PSN
RPG fans were overjoyed when Final Fantasy VII finally came to the PlayStation Network in downloadable form and ever since, those fans have craved more classic role-playing titles from the PS1 days.
Well, there's every possibility that we'll see many more in the future. First of all, the PS1 is arguably the greatest RPG machine in video game history and secondly, developers and publishers have made it clear that they wish to pursue digital re-releases of their formerly popular titles. Capcom has been a big supporter of this already, so it stands to reason that RPG followers have been asking about the Breath of Fire franchise. They started up a thread in the Capcom-Unity forums, just to see if Breath of Fire IV might eventually come to the PSN. This question also indirectly included the game's predecessor, Breath of Fire III, which was also on the PS1. Christian Svensson, President of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Capcom, replied:
"Now, if all you want are PS1 rereleases (which play on PSP and PS3), that's something I'm still working on. Games have to be recleared for IP and middleware usage to see if there's any conflicts. No promises, but they're high on my list."
"High on my list" is a good sign. It seems that more than a few people have been clamoring to get the BoF titles on the PSN, and the good news is that Capcom has been listening. Hopefully, we'll soon be able to tell you that BoFIII and BoFIV are on their way to digital download land for a modest price... Let's hope!
