EA To Resurrect Road Rash, Wing Commander, Others?

Despite all the new and ultra-successful franchises, we should never forget the titles that helped make the video game industry what it is, and Electronic Arts isn't about to ignore the past.

EA has been around for a very long time, and they have produced many games that no longer enjoy normal circulation. However, they may be planning to bring back a number of them: according to Superannuation, EA has filed new trademarks for several classic properties, including Wing Commander, Road Rash, Populous, and Theme Park. It seems that these "renewed trademarks" were filed on August 5 and the company clarified their previous descriptions, in that EA wants to use those names in various forms of entertainment media. Now, while some of you may want to leap around the room with nostalgic joy, GameSpot reminds us that new games for these titles may be a long ways off. They use the example of System Shock, which EA trademarked back in 2006 but we have yet to see a new incarnation of that popular PC series. Even so, the mere fact that the aforementioned titles still have some relative importance is reason enough to cheer.

We'll let you know when we hear anything; for our part, we'd love to see a new Road Rash. That bad-ass classic would be sweet in next-gen form, wouldn't it?
