Sony: The PS3 Is "The Most Complete Entertainment System"

There are any number of ways to interpret the console war, but it's always easiest to simply stick to the numbers. Sony has done just that in their latest press release, entitled "PlayStation: Your Entertainment Hub."

Sony wastes no time with the encouraging statistics: it has taken less than three years for the PlayStation 3 to have sold 24 million units worldwide, with a corresponding 190 million pieces of software. As for 2009, the machine has already enjoyed several fantastic exclusives, including Killzone 2, MLB 09: The Show, and inFamous, and according to Metacritic data, the PS3's library "features a higher percentage of titles scoring 80 or above than any other console of its generation." Looking down the road, we can expect over 25 more exclusive titles, including Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God of War III, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, MAG, Heavy Rain, ModNation Racers, and more. Oh, and you can expect more great games to be added to the Greatest Hits lineup, too.

The PlayStation Network continues to thrive as well. There are 26 million user accounts and there have been 540 million pieces of content downloaded thus far, with currently 200 downloadable games and 1500 pieces of add-on content available. We've seen exclusives like Fat Princess, Shatter, and Flower, plus the resurrection of various PS1 classics like Final Fantasy VII. A mere 6 weeks before the launch of the PSP Go, the current PSP sits at 53 million units sold worldwide and there are over 100 titles launching this fiscal year; including LittleBigPlanet PSP, Gran Turismo PSP, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3, and others. Lastly, the PS2: 139 million total systems sold, 1.4 billion (yes, billion) PS2 software units, and a current library of over 10,000 titles...all for the price of $99.

Oh, and if you didn't already know, they wanted to remind you what the PS3 offers straight out of the box that the Xbox 360 Arcade and Wii do not: Blu-Ray, connectivity with the PSP, and Wi-Fi; things like Wi-Fi, a hard drive, and full access to the online aspects cost extra if you buy the base 360. Of course, the Elite model is more comparable to the PS3, and the Wii...well, it's not comparable to anything, really. So there you have it. Another excellent update, no?
