PSP Firmware Update 6.10: Media Go, SenseMe, New Look Store
The PSP Go officially launches today and to prepare everyone for the next generation of handheld technology, Sony is readying firmware update v6.10.
Freshly detailed over at the PlayStation Blog, this latest update should be downloaded "to ensure full compatibility with MediaGo and with all PSP titles." Key features will include SenseMe channels, which is the new - and previously described - music application for the PSP "that uses Sony's proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from Media Go application on your PC to your PSP." Basically, this neat little feature separates and organizes your tracks into 12 different channels. The Media Go enhancements are also on the way - watch that video to learn more - and the PlayStation Store for the PSP and PSP Go is also getting an overhaul. Lastly, they tell us about "Tethering," which lets us use a bluetooth mobile device, like a mobile phone, as a modem to connect your PSP to the Internet. How sweet is that? Oh, the PSP sure has come a long way in just a few short years, and we have no doubt that Sony will continue to push the envelope in the realm of portable technology. They kinda have to, at this point; the competition in the form of the Nintendo DS won't sit on its laurels, either.
We're wondering how many people remember the early days of the PSP, and if they have good memories, they should be able to compare that time to what we have available today. ...pretty damn big leap, huh?

To make the battery die quickly you had to use the original smaller battery, push the screen brightness to high, turn up the sound to max, turn on the wireless module and play a UMD movie disc. With the backlight burning bright and the built in speakers (that were larger and louder in the PSP-1000 along with spinning that bloody heavy UMD full time, I hesitate to think how quickly you could burn through the old slim battery.
Personally I've always been able to get a good 3-4 hours from my PSP-1000 as long as I use one of the two dimmer backlight settings along with fairly quiet sound, and remember to disable the LAN unit when I'm not needing it. I get longer on the PSP-2000 with the enhanced UMD caching, and Soul Calibur Broken Destiny installs itself to a memory stick reducing the UMD use even further. I can get 4-6 hours on the PSP-2000. It seems like longer if I remember to put the thing into standby when I need to break away from the game for a moment.

do you turn it off or keep it on standby all the time? I keep tha back light on te lowest setting an the volume low or use head phones. I rarely use standby unless Im interupted and can't save. Power lasts a good 4 to 6 hours. I played Dissidia for 4 hours streight the other day. Battery still going strong after all this time.

I actually prefer the PSP-1000 for it's better sound. The sound on the PSP-2000 doesn't seem as powerful, or sound as 'full'. It also feels more solid in your hands.
That said, I do like my PSP-2000. The extra ability to cache UMD access really helps with battery duration. Also whether it's an optical illusion or not, I think the screen on the 2000 is better.

Funny how the 1000 has the fuller sound. I always thought the sound was dainty. My wife just says it's because I'm losing my hearing due to playing loud music all my life. She maybe right. My iPod volume limit isnt to my satisfaction either.

You know, where a developer of a PSN game has built the same game on both PS3 and PSP, they ought to consider bundling the PS3 and PSP versions together. Something like a buy one get one half price offer to encourage users of PS3 and PSP to get the game for both units.

Geez, how hard can it be to port on of the more decent versions of Tetris to the PSP, it's not that hard. They'd need to make some changes to the library calls and User Interface code, but other than that it'd pretty much be a straight re-compile.

On the subject of music, I've been into The Fratellis lately. They can do no wrong as far as I can see.
