Forgotten Sands Details And Preview Trailer Unveiled
Ever since we learned that a new Prince of Persia was in the works, we've been anxiously awaiting the official press release. Well, now we've got it.
Ubisoft has officially announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, which is scheduled to ship in May 2010 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, DSi, DS, and PC. We'll get a new storyline, new characters, new powers over nature and time, and fans of the franchise should know this plot takes place between The Sands of Time and The Warrior Within. The game will mark the return of multi-enemy combat (this was replaced for one-on-one duels in the most recent iteration) and of course, the Prince's amazing acrobatic abilities will once again be on display. This project uses the award-winning Anvil engine to produce "unforgettable set pieces" and with the new ability to have command over nature, the Prince will be able to combine this with his standard mastery of time for ultimate effectiveness. As for the story, here's the description from the release:
"Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the next chapter in the fan-favorite Sands of Time universe. Visiting his brother’s kingdom following his adventure in Azad, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction. When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with a great cost."
If you want to check out the first preview trailer, feel free. The first thing you will notice is the visual display; gone is the cel-shaded palette from the last PoP entry as we'll see a more modern, next-gen-ish graphical presentation. This is guaranteed to be one of the best - and most popular - titles for next year, so come May, you might just have to pick this one up.
