Warner Acquires "Majority Stake" In Rocksteady Studios
Batman: Arkham Asylum was just too good. Warner had to have 'em.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has announced their "acquisition of a majority stake in Rocksteady Studios," the developer responsible for last year's stellar superhero title. The team is located in London and specializes in developing action/adventure games and one of 2009's best obviously convinced Warner that Rocksteady was a darn good buy. "Rocksteady demonstrated its professionalism and extraordinary development abilities with Batman: Arkham Asylum," said Kevin Tsujihara, Warner Bros. president. "This arrangement is a great strategic fit and we are very pleased to solidify our relationship with this talented development team." Warner likes to focus on big game franchises; they've already worked to secure the rights to names like Mortal Kombat, The Lord of the Rings and Traveller's LEGO, so to add Batman to the list certainly fits with their business plan. Added Sefton Hill, Rocksteady games director:
"We are proud to strengthen our association with WBIE, a world class publisher that we have enjoyed working with since we began developing Batman: Arkham Asylum. The Rocksteady team is very much looking forward to creating more great games based on widely recognized Warner Bros. brands like Batman."
Some time soon, we hope to hear more about the sequel that is currently in development at Rocksteady. Fans of the original - and there are many fans - will definitely line up to snag it, and we're kinda hoping the team tries to make a great Superman game after all is said and done. Maybe they're the only ones who can do it...
