Peace Walker: 2 Hours, 42 Minutes Of Cut-Scenes

The Metal Gear Solid franchise has always placed heavy emphasis on storyline, which is why there are so many lengthy cut-scenes.

And although they toned it down a little for the upcoming handheld iteration, you'll still see plenty of plot-driven movies, and we're willing to bet they'll be plenty engaging (Hideo Kojima and Co. were behind them, after all). In total, according to Examiner.com citing the British Board of Film Classification, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will boast 162 minutes and 34 seconds of "linear elements;" i.e., cut-scenes or movies. This may sound like a lot - over 2 hours, 42 minutes - but it can't compare to recent MGS installments on consoles. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence clocked in at 216 minutes and 34 seconds and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots loaded up an amazing 545 minutes and 47 seconds. Personally, I really don't remember there being around seven and a half hours of movies in MGS4 but maybe that's one of the reasons the game was so masterful...everything just gelled so beautifully, and the story was so good. Of course, we're expecting more greatness from Peace Walker, even if it can't, by rule, be as technologically advanced as MGS4.

Anyway, in case you've forgotten, the game will be out in North America on June 8. If you're a true fan of the series, you won't pass it up.

heck yeah!!!!!!!!

but also playing a game on a handheld is completely different to sitting on a couch and playing w/ the console but either way IT WILL STILL BE GREAT!

The next one on the PS3 is going to be Rising starring Raiden. It looks more Devil May Cry-ish than MGS, though.

Damn... this really makes me want to re-buy a PSP. I sold mine because I never played it and it just sat on a shelf. I had a ton of great games for it but unless I'm on the road or out of town somewhere, I'd play my PS3 over my PSP everyday.

That being said, I own every single Metal Gear Solid game on the PS1, PS2 and PS3 (every version of every copy, too). Hell, I even bought a Gamecube just for The Twin Snakes. I had Portable Ops and Portable Ops+ on my original PSP but I didn't really care for them. This game, though, is actually from the main man himself, Hideo Kojima. I'm totally torn on what to do. I know if I re-buy a PSP, I'll play though Peace Walker and then never touch it again. Decisions, decisions...

So pumped for this game,,PSP needs AAA titles like these..@tridon,I'd wait to see if a PSP 2 is announced at E3 or something, then decide to get one cuz it might be backwards compatible with old PSP games

Yeah, I was also thinking that. Wouldn't that be a kick to the you-know-what if it wasn't backwards compatible? I'm sure it will be, though.

Good to hear Hideo is not backing down on his story telling to compensate for being on a portable. So much better looking than rising.

A PS2 port would sell more worldwide because of the larger install base.

MGS4 had 545 minutes of movie stuff, dam, I really need to check that game, and if I like it(which I reckon I will) I'll get Peace Walker also, after I get my paycheck of course.

Wow, that's even less than the first 'Solid.'
Don't get me wrong, over two and-a-half hours of cutscenes is mighty impressive (especially on a portable platform), it just SEEMS disappointing to me personally because 'Metal Gear' cutscenes are done so well that I look forward to them in each installment.

Still, they've exceeded my expectations with virtually every new video they've released of the game, so I expect the cutscenes (whatever the length) to be as top-notch as the rest of this sure-to-be-stellar release.

Cutscenes are fine on a console, it works on a 32" screen because its like a movie, I dont think I'd be as fond of them on a 4" screen. I really wish theyd release it for ps3 simultaneously.

Even Cuboid knows people like cut scenes. If the game play is anywhere near as good as MGS4 we're in for PSP GotY.

So stoked I just got my little brother into the MGS series so he's getting this for his PSP. So I get to play the whole MGS saga still thanks to passing the torch, if I had my own PSP this would be a title I would get day 1.

please dont tell me peace walker is another movie!
i dont know about you people but i like to PLAY my games not WATCH them!
i appreciate the story in MGS games, but for crying out loud why do we need such long, and so many cut scenes?
assassins creed has the best storyline by far, bar NONE! and it has barley any cut scenes!
and what it does have are extremely short.
