Lightning Graces New Dissidia 012 Duodecim Footage

Dissidia: Final Fantasy was a popular fighting title for the PSP, and the follow-up ought to be even more appealing.

Not only will it boast the standard Square-Enix CGI polish - as evidenced by the first part of the trailer below - but it will also feature new characters from the ever-expanding FF universe. The most notable addition is Lightning, the protagonist from Final Fantasy XIII, who will bring her significant skills to the Dissidia arena.

See? A bunch of your favorite characters, all ready to do battle. This fresh video showed up at the recent Jump Festa 2011 event; Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy is slated to hit Japan and Europe in March, and in North America some time in the spring. If you've always wanted to see how certain FF characters would fare against one another in one-on-one combat, this is the game for you.

I liked Lightning, but the story was so contained that she never got a chance to really shine like Main characters did in the old days. I enjoy the first one (still haven't beaten it) but I'll get this at some point. For Tifa more than Lightning though. ;)

I have to agree. Tifa is one of my favorite video game characters of all time. She's both hard to understand and rarely understood by anyone, I find.

Aerith was nice and all... but Tifa's where it's at.

It was cool meeting her in Crisis Core, whereas meeting Aeris was just sad.

That's exactly what's so screwed up about Lightning. She's presented as the main character but 95% of the story is about everyone else.

I much preferred the older games where you played the role of the hero and everyone knew who he was and why the teammates were following him. This sharing of the spotlight nonsense has got to stop.

This makes me want to play Final Fantasy XII again for some reason.

I loved the first game, so this is an easy day one for me.

So it's true, SE can only put out decent portable titles now.

Long live the duodecimal system.

At this point I'd rather see Final Fantasy XIV hit the PSP before the PS3 given their ratio of good portable games vs good console games. Portable is differently winning. Heh, maybe we would get lucky and they would throw in a turn based battle system considering all the turn based RPGs seems to be confined to the PSP and DS.

Yeah, the PSP seems to be where to turn for RPGs lately. I just spent $22 and got Front Mission 3 and Valkyria Chronicles 2 on my PSP. How can you beat that?

Damn. Everyone looks so bad-ass........... EXCEPT VAAN LOL. Vaan looks so fail compared to all the other main heroes. FF7 and FFX got the best looking characters.

They should always leave the character design to Tetsuya Nomura.

Riiiiiiiight, that's why Ready at Dawn and Kojima Pro some how manage to raise the bar higher on the PSP hardware.

It's not a fighting game like Tekken. What bothers me about Dissidia is that is more like an anime fighting game rather than anything like Final Fantasy. FF characters arent SO light on there feat, this is more like Dragon Ball Z.

SO much more to the story here that makes it tough for me to just shout out at SE. I'd love KH3 as much as the next guy, but it's certainly not going to be a focus for a while.

Why does the CGI look so damn good? I mean, it's a PSP game, there is no need to put THAT much effort into it.

Okay, that's only half-serious. March? Yeah, this'll definitely be a purchase from me, but probably not until a bit later down the track. Not because it doesn't interest me (I put over 120 hours into the original), as the new gameplay additions and characters actually sound great, but the ridiculously cheap final boss battle of Dissidia puts me off somewhat. Make it smart hard, like Demon's Souls, rather than unavoidable instant one-hit kills.

Can't wait to see what other new characters are revealed for this.
Peace.
