Source: PSP2 Unveiled Next Week, PS Phone Will Follow
It seems all the rumor and speculation for both the PSP2 and PlayStation Phone will be at an end very soon.
According to Bloomberg, Sony will unveil their new portable gaming unit - the PSP2 - on January 27; this had been previously reported by European source, MCV. It also seems as if Sony's new smartphone will be revealed next month, "according to two people with knowledge of the plans." At the same time, Sony plans to lift the lid on a new business strategy, one that is designed to "use its networked entertainment devices to share games, movies and music among handheld products, TVs and other devices." The new phone should be shown at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, as Sony tries to grab a piece of the market dominated by Nintendo and Apple. The PSP was never as popular as the DS here in the US but in terms of worldwide numbers, Sony's handheld has been tracking down Nintendo's portable. In fact, the PSP has seen weekly and even monthly victories in Japan recently.
As for the phone, that's a wait-and-see situation for most fans of PlayStation, especially if the rumored specs - which aren't exactly impressive - ring true. But we're certainly interested in the PSP2; the unit that's supposedly "as powerful as the PS3." ...hmm...

People just go off of name and don't bother doing research. I wanna slap all the Iphones out of the users hand who think their phone is so cool, or the "best"

the specs of the phone have been leaked, all pretty standard, but pretty good, comparing me to an iphone fan is stupid, i already have a htc desire, i love android and think its the best mobile os in my opinion (i know alot of people on here like iphone) i use the emulators on android alot to play all the old school nintendo and megadrive games, along with all the gameboy and GBA games, however touch screen controls suck, so the sony phone gives me android 2.3 - with a nice screen, plenty of ram, all the niceities of android and android apps, yet to play just android games i get a proper control system, am sold just for that, am not even bothered what kind of sony games come to this device as they will just be a bonus.
spec wise the only phones better than this will be the new tegra 2 devices which yeah sure its a shame this dosnt pack a tegra 2, but am not too fussed about it, android supports the unreal engine (ive got dungeon defenders on my htc desire looks really good) so i know the new snapdragon processors are pretty decent and better than my last gen snap dragon, along with overclocking it will be good enough. I'l bash my 32gig sd card in there and have plenty of room for my gaming, so yeah as you can see, am an android fan, and since this is the only real gaming phone available on any platform am well happy with this.
so yeah dont have a rant calling people a sheep assuming they haven't researched there next phone, just because your not interested in the phone doesn't mean other people aren't.
ps btw in your opinion what phone is better than this phone going on the rumoured specs of the xperia play?

As an added bonus, I have Final Fantasies 1 and 2 on it!
It also came in handy on my trip last year to Boston. From where I live in Canada, it's a 10 hour drive. I had tonnes of music and an entire season of Family Guy and a movie.
For gaming, I have my PSP. So... yeah. I don't care if it's top notch or not. It serves my needs. And if that makes me a Sheeple... that makes you a f$&%*(ng douche. lol ;) no offence. (I'm sure you aren't referring to people like me)

I got mine the last time I had to renew my service plan. Ended up costing me $40 since I got it with a newly established contract.
Brand new though? Yeah... most phones are WAY overpriced for their technology. >.< It's all just to encourage you to start up a new contract with them.

You shouldn't dog on someone for liking a particular brand if its a brand they've had a great history with. Hell a lot of us on here are Sony boys.

I think you're sort of preaching to the choir now, though. I never buy anything just because it has a certain brand. I think often I'll buy Sony because they are often ahead of the technological curve. And you pay for it. :(
I think most people here are capable of evaluating things for what they are. I, for one, am well aware that there are a number of phones better than the iphone. However, I'm comfortable with my phone, it serves all my needs, and I love that I only have to charge it every couple days.
Aside from that, I know it looks like a fridge and all, but it's got a big screen. So when I'm in a meeting, I can open up an entire document or spreadsheet from an email quickly, and I can read and navigate through it quickly with a flick of my finger. Some people say it's just a gimmick, but it's incredibly handy for my needs. It's an easy multitask tool that doesn't 'click' when I want to press buttons. So it doesn't interrupt people in meetings, either.
I don't think that's makes me some sort of Apple-kid. I'm just happy with my phone. It does everything I need and want it to do. Hard to justify investing in a "better" phone with that kind of experience, no?

These sources could be blowing hot air, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're legitimate. Even if the PSP2 is announced first, I think that the phone will release first, as the purported specs, as mentioned before, seem quite dated. The time for speculation is almost over. Time for the waiting game.
Peace.

I'd hesitate to say that there was a coordinated campaign of disinformation aimed at the PSP, but there are times when it sure seems like it. The PSP at launch was more expensive that the DS, but considering just what you got for your money compared to the DS, it was a bargain. Even now the systems are not that different in price, and the PSP is still light years ahead of the DS in terms of what it can do out of the box. PSPs games are good, certainly a lot better than 90% of the crap available on the DS. PSP games range in price from $19.99 to $39.99 (USD), they are full games and so merit full game prices. The whole no games argument has been BS for years now.
Still people continue to deride the PSP as if it was an abject failure for Sony. Fn fact they've sold over 60 million of the things competing against Nintendo who previously had a complete lock on the hand held gaming market - hardly an abject failure.
I'm heartily sick and tired of the knee-jerk anti-Sony rhetoric and vitriol that many a fanboy spews. You'd think Sony killed their favorite puppy or something. I guess the price for huge success is envy and hatred and Sony is paying that price.

Crisis Core remains my favorite. (And oh MAN is it ever crazy freakin' awesome!!!!) It's story is EXACTLY the kind of character development needed for each character within the story. It is a plain and simple masterpiece in terms of story. I wish the side missions weren't so repetitive, but that's the only complaint I have.
I also love what was added to the PSP version of FFTactics. Peace Walker is stellar, and the GOW game is too. Throw in the fact that it can play movies, music, run the internet, play multiplayer over the internet or locally all via a wi-fi connection, AND play PSmini's and PS1 classics (not to mention that it plays host to a variety of opportunities via the PSN) and you've got an absolute 100% bonafide uncontested winner in terms of quality! And all with great POWER!
It is simply the BEST handheld device on the market. I'm sorry, but with over 60 million units sold, it is anything but a failure.

Well... Australia is HUGE! Seriously, what's underwater is equal to about three United Kingdoms, and it's really only a small amount of the country. I'm in north Queensland, so dodged the floods, but it's still bloody raining.
Highlander,
You're dead right. I too feel that a lot of what is said about the PSP is ridiculous, although there has been a problem with consistency. There was a large surge of good games at the beginning of the lifecycle, and a surge of great games now that it seems to be dying, but the middle was pretty bare. The good/great games it has are enough to rival anything on the home systems, IMO.
And anyone who says that it is a sales failure is delusional. To cut a market share roughly equivalent to what Nintendo has, with a first-generation device no less, is remarkable (second if you want to count the PocketStation, which I do not).
Underdog,
The extra features available on the PSP are an awesome bonus. It can be used as a portable multimedia device, and I personally used to use it as a MP3/MP4 player when I was excessively occupied by the PS3. I've gone back to using it more as a gaming device ever since my PS3 YLOD'd at the start of the year. It's such a great difference in terms of what is available.
Now, does anyone think, that with the creation of a PSPhone and PSP2, that the third generation PSP will combine the two and become a super-powerful smartphone/portable gaming device/multimedia device?
Peace.

i hope the rumors are true that its a real powerful beast!
it needs to at least make the iphone 4 and 3Ds look like ancient history!
i just hope sony dont charge too much for it, and hopefully they have heaps of good launch titles for it.
AKA the complete opposite of what they have been doing since the ps2 launched!
