Xperia Play Games Priced Between $1.50 And $16

The Sony Ercisson Xperia Play is a smartphone for the gamer. Hence, it must have games to be attractive.

The launch lineup for the new phone should consist of around 50 titles (including 10 games from Gameloft alone), but price is a common question when talking about the Xperia Play. Not only do consumers want to know the unit cost, but they also want to know about the price tag applied to games. Well, according to an MCV interview with Sony Ercisson UK head of marketing David Hilton, those games will have quite a large range: from $1.50 to "upwards of $16." Some PS1 classics are expected at launch and games from other platforms "repurposed for Xperia Play." The price falls in line with what iPhone and Android users expect these days and don't forget, Hilton reminds everyone that the games on Xperia Play are "far more complex." Anything in the $15 range will seem high, though, so we're hoping the game experience is second-to-none for mobile phones.

Are you still planning to get one? Or are you happy with what you've got? Maybe you need to know the price of the phone itself...

Depends on the games, the price of the phones, and whether or not the phone is excellent at keeping my life organized in a way that won't force me to fumble around!

as long as the battery life is ok, you should be fine. Its just a normal android phone, with all of the google apps that you get with, so your talking email, calender, organiser, googlemaps navigation etc etc.

Its just when you get some free time you can slide your phone down to show the gamepad, and start play some old school crash bandicoot

It really boils down to how long the battery will last on one full charge. Don't want to get carried away with gaming and of a sudden my battery is low and I need to talk to someone or if I get a important business call or something.

you gotta think, us english have 20%value added tax. i could also say its free on a 35pound a month 2 yr contract which would be the same as it being free on a 2 yr $57 a month contract - i beleive most of your phones in america you generally pay $199 upfront plus somewhere between $60-$120 for your monthly contracts.

You could be right but Im not from America or UK.
I just find everything much cheaper in ebay than in stores in my country. So I havent gone into much detail about them taxes in UK or US

If I were going to get a smart phone, this would probably be it, but I don't need a smart phone and so I'll be passing it by.

I think I'm going to pass on this now after becoming a lot more informed now. There's just no need for me to be spending $60 plus a month on a phone when I have internet and games already. I love the idea of the phone, but it'd be more of a want than a need.

for some reason I dont know if this plays psp games... I guess if it did the range would be $1 to $40 for high end psp releases like ff type 0 etc. So would that mean its just a normal smartphone that has a pad and ps1 classics? I dont get how I missed this

Nope, I won't be getting the Xperia Play. I'm a gamer first and foremost and this looks like just a smartphone to play typical smartphone/mobile games with traditional gaming controls. Yes, it'll also have some games geared toward core console/handheld gamers that will be vastly atypical for mobile phones, and thus the Xperia Play may be striving for more of a core gaming experience than the iPhone, which is comendable. But it is still a smartphone that has to divide itself up to do things besides just gaming and therefore inherently loses it focus. Plus, I'm absolutely sure the Nintendo 3DS and Sony's NGP (which are focused gaming devices) will be able to do much of the same things and much better. I'll be getting the 3DS and the NGP because they are vidoe game devices designed specifically around allowing for deep, immersive, and core gaming experiences, which is exactly what I want. Smartphones, in my experience, have very, very few games like that to offer. While I'm sure this gaming-geared smartphone will be able to more than hold its own against the iPhone when it comes to games, I seriously doubt it'll be able to do even close to the same against the 3DS and NGP. So, I will be passing on the Xperia Play and instead investing in the 3DS and NGP and all the wholly original, classic, serious, deep, immersing, unique, and creative games those two handhelds will have on offer.

I have nothing to base this on but gut feeling, and everything you say above is true, but I think this phone will change over time to be more in synch with the playstation. I'm betting that if it's successful, more and more it will be inline with the PS3. Content and communications-wise. Things will develop. Again just a guy feeling. I'll get it because I need a new phone badly and do not have a smart phone. The fact I'm a rabid Sony fan boy pretty much seals the deal. So I may just be thinking wishfully.

I hardly use the phone I got so they can keep this my attention goes to the NGP. I don't know why but something tells me this phone might not do all that hot when it comes out I could be wrong though.
