Tokyo Game Show 2011, NGP Still On Track In Japan

A few days ago, SCEA president Jack Tretton said the recent tragedy in Japan might delay the launch of the NGP in that struggling region.

But a Sony corporate spokesperson told the Dow Jones news service - via the Wall Street Journal - that the problems in Japan will not affect the planned launch of the NGP (Next Generation Portable). The spokesperson flat-out said the Bloomberg report in which Tretton suggests the crisis could affect the NGP was "wrong." However, it was also re-confirmed that Sony's next portable might not arrive in all territories this year; the plan is to release the unit in stages starting at the end of 2011. In addition, other fears relating to this year's Tokyo Game Show have also been quelled: according to Andriasang, TGS 11 is still on track to run from Thursday, September 15 to Sunday, September 18. So the industry continues on and we have no doubt the Japanese people will prevail.

By the way, this year's TGS might be pretty darn interesting. The games that might be on tap could draw droves...

Most liquor stores should have some, just ask at the counter. Unless you're under 21 in which case you shouldn't drink

NGP can take its time, Square: Just bring something jaw dropping from Versus and some news about FFXIII-2 being having an explorable world with towns and turn based battles and stuff. That's all I want. Or do it at E3, just DO it!

Wow, that's pretty impressive that with all that's going on they are still able to get so much done. I can understand Tretton saying that it might delay it. With what happened I don't think any of would have been surprised by delays.

This is great news, not just for gamers, but also for the Japanese economy. I'm glad to hear that not everything will come to a stop because of the disaster. It goes a long way to show the resolve of the Japanese people.

Well, it said delayed in some regions, and I thought that they were also aiming for a 2011 release for NA. So that's obviously been delayed, but it's good to know that some people will have it by year's end. And of course, TGS should be really good. We'll have a much better indication of what we should be looking forward to next year by then, even with November still yet to come.
Peace.
