After 12 Years, Atlus Will Finally Deliver Innocent Sin To US
RPG fans can still get their fix easily enough on the PSP, and North American gamers will get a shot at yet another quality handheld experience.
Today, Atlus has announced that Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin will be delivered to North America this fall. This is the one title in the series that hasn't yet made it to the US, so there should be plenty of satisfied US followers.
In the game, "an unlikely team of citizens must discover and harness a hidden power dormant within each of them," and they must unearth the reason for a dangerous phenomenon. Believe it or not, the official localization of this game is 12 years in the making (Persona 2 came out on the PlayStation in 1999), and it'll take advantage of the PSP's 16:9 aspect ratio, higher resolution, better audio, and increased power. Therefore, this remastered version of Innocent Sin should turn out great.
Here's more from the press release:
"While the original Persona still exhibited many foundational ties to the core SMT series, Persona 2: Innocent Sin marked the point at which the beloved RPG series found its identity. While retaining core series mechanics like demon negotiation and party-building, Innocent Sin was ultimately defined by its far greater emphasis on character and story over surviving long dungeons, eschewing the tradition of first-person dungeon crawling in favor of a third-person view of the ever-escalating insanity. The story unfolds through lovingly crafted sprite animations and dialogue portraits, which were current series artist Shigenori Soejima's first contribution to the Persona games, but it's the characters who shine most, from the memorable villains to the fully fleshed-out main cast to the vast array of people they meet along the way."
Hey, I'm still playing the Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection on the PSP. If we want our traditional RPGs, where else can we turn these days?

While we all had a laugh(me, my missus and our other couple)it was a bit of a let down in terms of the actual game for those of us who'd played the later two Persona games first even if I AM still going to play the first one in it's original form one day! Anyway, I LOVE P3 and P4 and along with TWEWY I think they're the best JRPGS of the last five years-or the most enjoyable in many ways but this one just isn't of the same kind of class imho and I doubt I'd have really enjoyed it as much as Idid if it hadn't been for playing it through with so many good friends at once-it ewas a novel experience but the game didn't hold up like the modern ones do.
Anyhoo-if you're set on it then fair enough as it's still a good enough game I just don't think it's worth the extra cost of buying it twice and looking for a decent disc copy for your PS1 when it's not up to curent Persona standards AND there'll be a better version on PSP anyway. Dunno what a good copy will cost either as I was lucky enough not to have to pay for the one we played as my mates GF(Kuko-it's short for something that i can't remember)brought it over for us.

This ^ so much... I'm really glad not to be the only one that thinks this way... I love the Persona games and I'm really looking forward to hearing something about Persona 5... Well, maybe they'll say something at E3.
