Rumor: NGP Launch Titles Confirmed

PSP2, NGP, Vita...call it whatever you want; it still needs great games in order to succeed.

Most importantly, Sony's new portable will require a solid assortment of launch titles when the fancy new handheld arrives. We've heard multiple rumors supposedly confirming the NGP launch lineup and while this isn't official, it's encouraging to see more evidence. If true, this list is pretty damn good:

Uncharted NGP
Little Deviants
Call of Duty
Lumines NGP
Sonic Generations
Mortal Kombat
LEGO Harry Potter (5-7 years)

I've often said it in the past: hardware turns into a really expensive paperweight with no software. Of course, in this sense, the super light NGP doesn't really fit the analogy but you get the point. It won't be cheap and it'll need to compete against the likes of the Nintendo 3DS; hence, it really needs a great start.

Would this lineup convince you to nab the new portable on launch day?

Made by the same team that's doing the very promising looking Child of Eden. Haven't played it on PSP, but I'd probably pick it up on the PSV to pad out the initial launch games that I'll have alongside the device.

If I were to get this, it would be more for the non-gaming features than anything else. I'm not into portable gaming that much, but I like little hi-tech devices. Playing Playstation games would be a bonus.

Great games would definitely have me supporting the NGP. I purchased the Nintendo 3DS when it launched and having to wait until June 7th to see exactly what it can offer is an excitement kill.

Ahhhh...I was hoping that "Gravity Daze" would appear on that list. That looks hella fun, based on the little preview we saw of it on the NGP trailer.

I think the integrated reality function (or whatever it's called) is going to be hella fun!

I for one think the great list of games is really just a HUGE bonus. I mean yeah it's the PSP at heart but really this is an all in one media machine we're looking at here that beats the iPod Touch in quality, look, feel, power, connectivity, integration, PRICE, and after all that... games. I really hope this will be priced lower than the i-Pod Touch, that will be the sweet spot. SONY has a potential KO on their hands if they play their cards right. I f you couldn't tell I believe SONY's real opponent here is not the DS anymore but the i-Pod demographic.

Wow, am I the only one psyched about WipEout? Lumines got me hooked on the original PSP as well. I suddenly feel like I'm experiencing deja vu, in a good way. It's like the original PSP launch all over again! And in that case, yeah, I'd be needing Ridge Racer.

Not a single game on that list that impressed me. I mean, Lumines and Wipeout AGAIN? I don't know what "Little Deviants" is so can't say anything about that one, but the rest are uninteresting to me. They are well known brands though, so I guess they will sell.
I will not start a Uncharted rant again, let's just say that I won't buy it and leave it at that.

In addition to big games (like Mass Effect or even Burnout Paradise, how awsome would that be) I was hoping for more unique NGP titles, like Crush on the PSP. Games that are not just watered down versions of console games, but unique IPs for that platform.

I hate to admit it, but all in all I am disappointed. I was expecting at least *one* big surprise on that list. Something that made me go "omg, ok, I *want* this".
If this is the final list then I will definitely put the NGP on hold until further notice.

Off topic for a sec.....

Hey Baseballedude or Ben,

Can you fix this demonic "toggle scrolling button" to stay exactly how I've set it to off mode forever? It's driving me nucking futs!

FYI, I'm not sure if you guys are aware of it but, if I post something, it keeps resetting itself back to "scrolling" mode, & then I have to make up to 5 more clicks just to get back to the main page afterwards.
And if I have a lot of posts to do, it get so bad, it makes me not even want to post anything at all.

Yeah, I love those old Foghorn Leghorn cartoons, along with those two sarcastic Magpies, Heckle & Jeckle too.

The most recent character I love is from the 1/2 hour TV show Futurama, that boozing, smoking, swearing, womanizer, Bender the robotthat's always telling everyone to "BITE MY SHINY METAL A$$".

Well... that's a damn sight more impressive than the 3DS :D

For me, it'd be Lumines, Uncharted, Little Deviants and WipEout. I just hope that we get a couple of other NGP/PSV exclusive franchises releasing in the first three months to better take advantage of the hardware. And if Sega doesn't announce VC4 for the NGP soon, I'm going to lose it. That NEEDS to happen!

I was initially disappointed in VC2, but came to love it by the time my disc stopped working (tears were shed that day). PS3/NGP, either way is fine by me, as long as Sega keeps making them and localising them.

VC2 is driving me nuts, I won't admit the hours I've put into it...but I am struggling to get my squad to the elite classes.

Have to admit, I like the bonus characters you can enable, they rock. They also make the missions a good bit easier...

uncharted as a launch title? sounds pretty good to me!

i hope they port it to ps3 though coz i love the uncharted games, favorite series of all time, but i dont want to get the NGP just for that, i dont have enough money for one

You don't have to pick one up Day 1. Probably be best to wait for a hardware revision anyway. That way the device will be cheaper, as will all of the earlier games, and there'll be a much wider selection of games to choose from.

Lawless is the sensible one. You're right of course, and generally speaking I do indeed wait those mandatory two-three months before buying anything, including most games (still waiting for LA Noire drop).

But if, say, BioWare are lurking in the shadows with a *giant* rpg for the NGP, well... I will not be able to resist that, no matter how soon it may drop in price. I am a slave and admit it.
After all, I bought the PS3 for one game only (gtaiv).

Hmm... not sure Bioware would have an exclusive RPG for the system, but From Software is supposedly working on it. Demon's/Dark Souls style game for the system? Count me in Day 1!

I'll be getting an NGP with the first hardware revision. Both the original PSP and PS3 were beasts, and I never had any complaints about my phat PS2 either. Sony tends to over engineer and then refine. So that initial product is likely to be the best built revision of NGP over time.

uncharted has been rumored to not be ready for launch, if this misses launch the NGP is as good as sunk!
they need killzone or resistance or maybe even little big planet to go along with uncharted, i just cant see one big well known franchise being enough to carry it.

Implying that CoD or the sports games won't sell the system. I mean come on... look at the 3DS launch line-up and tell me how it didn't bomb. I think that, as long as there are a few good games for the first few months, regardless of the branding, the NGP will do just fine, but it'll need to kick up a gear sooner or later.

Seriously, 20 million CoD fans would have the opportunity to play the 'real thing' on a handheld device with real controls. You were specifically refuting the idea that specific franchises would play a significant part in determining NGPs fortunes. We responded to that. No one is suggesting (apart from you) that a single franchise or genre will be required to keep the NGP afloat. with a decent range of launch titles, and a library of downloadable titles already available,m NGP will not lack for games at launch. To me, this device will sell - initially - based on name and specification, then as the price falls, content will become king.

Nah, a new game being developed at Sony Bend with production being overseen by Naughty Dog, reportedly set either before DF, or between it and AT, and with a bigger focus on platforming and exploration than gunplay.

Also, touch screen manipulation for several different features is rumoured, though not confirmed.

Well you had me interested there until you said touch screen. I had touch screen devices, Screens are for viewing not slabbing muck paws all over. At least it has not got two screens, that will always baffles me.

Actually on that matter I got my hands on a 3DS at a game store the other day,I seriously think it is the worse console I have ever set eyes on. I'm being serious. I played Street Fighter IV, which I am fair at on the PS3 version. But playing this it on the DS i could not just get used to the D-pad or analogue stick. Also, I was trying to focus on the screen with the fight, But the screen below was actually brighter and really distracting. If that was not enough! One screen is bigger than the other! What we're they thinking when making this obscure device!

Rear-pad touch controls were definitely featured in the demo, but it was suggested that they will be optional (and they were used for actions which buttons control in U:DF and U2).

The game is clearly built to be played with both hands on the standard button/stick controls and not by tracing your fingers across the screen.

I hope NGP is not dead on arrival. I wonder how the handheld gaming profiling has changed since iOS and Android phones have become quite interesting gaming devices, including Sony's own EXPERIA Play.

Anyway, we will see soon enough when the first sales figures roll in after the NGP launch...

Sony announced that NGP will run Playstation Suite software. Since Minecraft will work on the Xperia Play - PlayStation Suite - it will work on NGP, in theory.

Makes me wonder what pricing's gonna look like on this new generation of portable games....it makes my wallet shiver...Oh, and if, for some reason, I were to pick up the NGP at launch I'd probably pick up Sonic Generations(I'm a sucker for Sonic and he's not been doing quite so bad lately)and Wipeout or Little Deviants. All in all, sounds better than the 3DS launch.

Hot Shots!? Really? They haven't come out with a new hot shots since the ps3 launched. It's about time, it was such an addictive game too. Can't wait.

Fifa and Uncharted alone warrant a purchase for me. Little deviants looks pretty cool too.

I'll buy it when the Uncharted game comes out. Hopefully, Sony will release a limited edition Uncharted NGP. I'd nab that with the game. Nothing else there interests me. I'd go for another Killzone or maybe a Fallout or an FFVII remake (lol). But it's worth it to me just for Uncharted, though I'd become rather disappointed if that were the only software to pique my interest.
